Introduction
Paliperidone Palmitate 3-month formulation (PP3M) has shown a significantly longer time to relapse compared to placebo, with similar efficacy and safety to Paliperidone Palmitate 1-month (PP1M) (Carpiniello et al. Drug Des. Devel. Ther. 2016; 10 1731–1742).
ObjectivesThe main objective of this study was to determine the effectiveness of PP3M in preventing hospital admissions and emergency room visits, in people with non-acute schizophrenia in a naturalistic psychiatric outpatient setting
MethodsSample: 30 people with diagnosis of schizophrenia (DSM 5 criteria), who had started treatment with PP3M, after being stabilized with PP1M (the dose was not modified in the four months prior to inclusion in the study)
Quarterly basis, the following evaluations were performed during a follow-up period of 66 months:
The Clinical Global Impression-Schizophrenia scale (CGI-SCH)
Treatment adherence, concomitant medication and the number of hospitalizations and emergency visits
Efficacy values: Percentage of patients who remained free of admissions at the end of 66 months of follow-up.
Other evaluation criteria: Percentage of patients who never visited the emergency department at the end of 66 months of follow-up. Average change from baseline visit to the final evaluation as assessed by score obtained on the following scale: GSI-SCH, percentage of patients on antipsychotic monotherapy and treatment adherence rate.
ResultsThe mean dose of PP3M was 401. 55 mg
The percentage of patients who remained free of admissions at the end of the 66 months was 83.25% and the percentage of patients who never visited the emergency department at the end of 66 months was 79.92%
Mean variations from baseline scores at 66 months were: (-0.36 ±0-37) on the GCI-SCH.
The percentage of patients on antipsychotic monotherapy at the end of the 66 months was 76.56%
The rate of adherence was 86.58%
.
ConclusionsIn our study, we found that paliperidone palmitate 3-month formulation was effective in reducing the number of admissions and visits to the emergency department, under conditions of daily clinical practice.

Introduction
Since its emergence at the end of 2019, the COVID-19 virus has spread worldwide. In Spain, mandatory home confinement was established on March 15, 2020, and lasted 99 days. Previous studies on events that required isolation situations suggest a worsening in the mental health of general population, and in particular, of especially vulnerable groups such as individuals with severe mental disorder (SMD).
ObjectivesThe aim of this study is to evaluate the psychological effect (anxiety and depression) of confinement in patients with SMD and to study the dissimilarities among the different diagnostic groups.
MethodsIn this study, assessments were performed using the IDER and STAI questionnaires, in order to evaluate symptoms of depression and anxiety, respectively. The evaluations were carried out in patients who had required at least one admission to the Psychiatric Hospitalization Unit of the University Hospital of Basurto. The Shapiro-Wilk test was used to verify the normality of the sample. ANOVA test was used to study differences among diagnostic groups. Posteriorly, Bonferroni correction was performed.
Results95 participants completed the IDER questionnaire, obtaining a mean score of 24.56 (SD=8.18) for the state and 23.57 (SD=8.14) for the trait. In the STAI questionnaire, a mean score of 27.86 (SD=15.19) was obtained for the state and 30.49 (SD=14.71) for the trait. ANOVA test indicated presence of differences among groups. However, differences did not persist after Bonferroni correction.
ConclusionsIncreased levels of anxiety and depression were found in the sample studied with respect to the general population.No statistically significant differences were found among different disgnostic groups. Further studies should be performed in order to increase the knowledge around this research area.

Introduction
This program project arises from the consternation of psychotherapists at the increase in self-injurious behaviors in the child and adolescent population.
Currently, in consultation, we are seeing many cases that do not match the conditions (anxiety disorders, depression, attention deficit disorder and hyperactivity…) described by current classifications. These cases have a common feature: emotional dysregulation.
Objectives- Reduce the discomfort and emotional pain of the patient.- Increase the patient’s skills.
- Improve patient motivation.
- Generalize to the natural environment.
- Structure the environment.
MethodsThe program is directed to peoople between the ages of 12 and 18. They are divided into two groups: one from 12 to 15 years old and another from 16 to 18 years old.
The groups are a maximum of 8 adolescents. Parents also participate.
These are closed groups.
The duration of each session is one hour or one hour and a half.
A therapeutic contract is signed.
ResultsWe will use different scales to measure the evolution of the patients. The following scales will be passed at the beginning and at the end: DERS, EGD, DASS 21, GHQ-12.
Dialectical dilemmas in families will be worked on. These results will be collected and compared with those at the end of the program.
ConclusionsPeople with emotional dysregulation sometimes do not have the necessary skills to regulate emotions. With this program, we intend to carry out training in skills (mindfulness; middle path; tolerance to discomfort; emotional regulation), structured in modules, in addition to relying on individual therapy.
Given this increase in deregulated children and young people, we see ourselves in the need to train ourselves and address these cases from a different point of view.

Aims
Psychosis spectrum disorder has a complex pathoetiology characterised by interacting environmental and genetic vulnerabilities. The present study aims to investigate the role of gene–environment interaction using aggregate scores of genetic (polygenic risk score for schizophrenia (PRS-SCZ)) and environment liability for schizophrenia (exposome score for schizophrenia (ES-SCZ)) across the psychosis continuum.
MethodsThe sample consisted of 1699 patients, 1753 unaffected siblings, and 1542 healthy comparison participants. The Structured Interview for Schizotypy-Revised (SIS-R) was administered to analyse scores of total, positive, and negative schizotypy in siblings and healthy comparison participants. The PRS-SCZ was trained using the Psychiatric Genomics Consortiums results and the ES-SCZ was calculated guided by the approach validated in a previous report in the current data set. Regression models were applied to test the independent and joint effects of PRS-SCZ and ES-SCZ (adjusted for age, sex, and ancestry using 10 principal components).
ResultsBoth genetic and environmental vulnerability were associated with case-control status. Furthermore, there was evidence for additive interaction between binary modes of PRS-SCZ and ES-SCZ (above 75% of the control distribution) increasing the odds for schizophrenia spectrum diagnosis (relative excess risk due to interaction = 6.79, [95% confidential interval (CI) 3.32, 10.26], p < 0.001). Sensitivity analyses using continuous PRS-SCZ and ES-SCZ confirmed gene–environment interaction (relative excess risk due to interaction = 1.80 [95% CI 1.01, 3.32], p = 0.004). In siblings and healthy comparison participants, PRS-SCZ and ES-SCZ were associated with all SIS-R dimensions and evidence was found for an interaction between PRS-SCZ and ES-SCZ on the total (B = 0.006 [95% CI 0.003, 0.009], p < 0.001), positive (B = 0.006 [95% CI, 0.002, 0.009], p = 0.002), and negative (B = 0.006, [95% CI 0.004, 0.009], p < 0.001) schizotypy dimensions.
ConclusionsThe interplay between exposome load and schizophrenia genetic liability contributing to psychosis across the spectrum of expression provide further empirical support to the notion of aetiological continuity underlying an extended psychosis phenotype.

Introduction
Several studies point to the importance that the complex formed by GABA and the benzodiazepine receptor play for cerebral dopaminergic transmission and, hence, to the pathophysiology of psychotic symptoms. The decrease in GABA neuratransmisión or the hypofunction of the system in the hippocampus, cortex and other limbic prefrontal or subcortical regions has consequences as emotional dysregulation, cognitive impairment and development of positive psychotic symptoms.
ObjectivesWe intended to show an additional practical example to the limited literature available based on a case linking the emergence of psychotic symptoms due to acute benzodiazepine withdrawal.
MethodsWe present the case of a 21 year old man who was sent to the emergency room of our hospital after an episode of aggressiveness on the street. The patient showed a psychotic schizophrenic syndrome with significant emotional and behavioural impact with aggressive and bizarre movements. In parallel, restlessness, sweating, tremor, increased blood pressure and tachycardia were observed. Symptoms had started abruptly two hours earlier. The patient companion explained that he usually took Alprazolam at an of over 40 mg per day. He had decided to give up this consumption abruptly four days earlier.
DiscussionGABAergic deficits cause the imbalance between excitatory and inhibitory neurotransmission that may relate the pathophysiology of psychotic symptoms. The dysfunction of the GABAergic cortical interneurons could affect to the modulating response from the association cortex, which, could also relate with the appearance of these symptoms.
ConclusionThis case could relate a decrease in GABAergic transmission with the appearance of psychotic symptoms.

Filamentary structures can form within the beam of protons accelerated during the interaction of an intense laser pulse with an ultrathin foil target. Such behaviour is shown to be dependent upon the formation time of quasi-static magnetic field structures throughout the target volume and the extent of the rear surface proton expansion over the same period. This is observed via both numerical and experimental investigations. By controlling the intensity profile of the laser drive, via the use of two temporally separated pulses, both the initial rear surface proton expansion and magnetic field formation time can be varied, resulting in modification to the degree of filamentary structure present within the laser-driven proton beam.

Aims
Although many mental health care systems provide care interventions that are not related to direct health care, little is known about the interfaces between the latter and core health care. ‘Core health care’ refers to services whose explicit aim is direct clinical treatment which is usually provided by health professionals, i.e., physicians, nurses, psychologists. ‘Other care’ is typically provided by other staff and includes accommodation, training, promotion of independence, employment support and social skills. In such a definition, ‘other care’ does not necessarily mean being funded or governed differently. The aims of the study were: (1) using a standard classification system (Description and Evaluation of Services and Directories in Europe for Long Term Care, DESDE-LTC) to identify ‘core health’ and ‘other care’ services provided to adults with mental health problems; and (2) to investigate the balance of care by analysing the types and characteristics of core health and other care services.
MethodsThe study was conducted in eight selected local areas in eight European countries with different mental health systems. All publicly funded mental health services, regardless of the funding agency, for people over 18 years old were identified and coded. The availability, capacity and the workforce of the local mental health services were described using their functional main activity or ‘Main Types of Care’ (MTC) as the standard for international comparison, following the DESDE-LTC system.
ResultsIn these European study areas, 822 MTCs were identified as providing core health care and 448 provided other types of care. Even though one-third of mental health services in the selected study areas provided interventions that were coded as ‘other care’, significant variation was found in the typology and characteristics of these services across the eight study areas.
ConclusionsThe functional distinction between core health and other care overcomes the traditional division between ‘health’ and ‘social’ sectors based on governance and funding. The overall balance between core health and other care services varied significantly across the European sites. Mental health systems cannot be understood or planned without taking into account the availability and capacity of all services specifically available for this target population, including those outside the health sector.

Measurements in the infrared wavelength domain allow direct assessment of the physical state and energy balance of cool matter in space, enabling the detailed study of the processes that govern the formation and evolution of stars and planetary systems in galaxies over cosmic time. Previous infrared missions revealed a great deal about the obscured Universe, but were hampered by limited sensitivity.
SPICA takes the next step in infrared observational capability by combining a large 2.5-meter diameter telescope, cooled to below 8 K, with instruments employing ultra-sensitive detectors. A combination of passive cooling and mechanical coolers will be used to cool both the telescope and the instruments. With mechanical coolers the mission lifetime is not limited by the supply of cryogen. With the combination of low telescope background and instruments with state-of-the-art detectors SPICA provides a huge advance on the capabilities of previous missions.
SPICA instruments offer spectral resolving power ranging from R ~50 through 11 000 in the 17–230 μm domain and R ~28.000 spectroscopy between 12 and 18 μm. SPICA will provide efficient 30–37 μm broad band mapping, and small field spectroscopic and polarimetric imaging at 100, 200 and 350 μm. SPICA will provide infrared spectroscopy with an unprecedented sensitivity of ~5 × 10−20 W m−2 (5σ/1 h)—over two orders of magnitude improvement over what earlier missions. This exceptional performance leap, will open entirely new domains in infrared astronomy; galaxy evolution and metal production over cosmic time, dust formation and evolution from very early epochs onwards, the formation history of planetary systems.

We report the analysis of the mid-infrared spectral maps observed by Spitzer/IRS toward star-forming regions where the Herschel key program WADI has observed / will observe with HIFI and PACS. The IRS spectra are fitted using 4 components of small grains: PAH0, PAH+, PAHx, and evaporating VSG, and the spatial distributions of these components are derived.

Malic enzyme 1 plays a fundamental role in lipid metabolism because it yields a significant amount of the NADPH necessary for fatty acid biosynthesis. In ruminants, however, its contribution to this biochemical process seems to be less relevant than in other livestock species. In this study, we have partially sequenced the goat ME1 gene with the aim of identifying polymorphic sites. Structural analysis of the goat ME1 amino acid partial sequence evidenced the existence of two dinucleotide-binding motifs, located at positions 158 to 163 (GLGDLG) and 301 to 306 (GAGEAA), and three amino acid residues (E245, D246 and D269) involved in the binding of Mn2+ and strongly conserved among mammalian species. Moreover, multiple sequence alignment allowed us to identify four single nucleotide polymorphisms at exons 5 (c.483C > T), 6 (c.667G > A), 9 (c.927C > T) and 11 (c.1200G > A). The effects of ME1 genotype on milk production and composition traits were investigated in a Murciano–Granadina goat population. None of the associations found reached statistical significance after applying Benjamini–Hochberg correction. At most, associations with uncorrected P-values below 0.01 were observed for C16:0, C18:1n-9t and total conjugated linoleic acids. These negative results reinforce the notion that ME1 plays an ancillary role in ruminant lipogenesis.
Prognostic value of cognitive functioning for global functional recovery in first-episode schizophrenia

Background
It has become widely accepted that cognitive deficits in schizophrenia are related to functional outcome. However, it remains to be seen whether these associations are relevant for predicting which cases will have a global functional recovery. In this study, we attempt to determine whether global functional recovery (integrating social and occupational outcomes) after first-episode schizophrenia (FES) can be predicted by cognitive variables.
MethodA total of 131 FES patients with functional deficits (n=97) and functional recovery (n=34) as determined at 1-year follow-up were examined. Neuropsychological, sociodemographic, pre-morbid and clinical data at baseline were analysed using independent groups comparisons and a logistic regression method.
ResultsSustained attention and negative symptoms emerged as significant predictors of good global functional outcome. Although the model revealed a high accuracy (91%) in the classification of patients with functional deficits, it was unacceptably low (26%) in the classification of patients with global functional recovery.
ConclusionsThe limitations found in the prediction of a favourable global functional outcome may well be an indication for a need to address the role of other factors not commonly included in longitudinal studies of long-term outcomes in schizophrenia.
Cannabis abuse is associated with decision-making impairment among first-episode patients with schizophrenia-spectrum psychosis

Background
Cannabis use appears to be a risk factor for schizophrenia. Moreover, cannabis abusers show impaired decision-making capacities, linked to the orbitofrontal cortex (OFC). Although there is substantial evidence that first-episode schizophrenia patients show impairments in cognitive tasks associated with the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (DLPFC), it is not clear whether decision making is impaired at schizophrenia onset. In this study, we examined the association between antecedents of cannabis abuse and cognitive impairment in cognitive tasks associated with the DLPFC and the OFC in a sample of first-episode patients with schizophrenia-spectrum disorders.
MethodOne hundred and thirty-two patients experiencing their first episode of a schizophrenia-spectrum psychosis were assessed with a cognitive battery including DLPFC-related tasks [backward digits, verbal fluency (FAS) and the Trail Making Test (TMT)] and an OFC-related task [the Iowa Gambling Task (GT)]. Performance on these tasks was compared between patients who had and had not abused cannabis before their psychosis onset.
ResultsNo differences were observed between the two groups on the performance of any of the DLPFC-related tasks. However, patients who had abused cannabis before their psychosis onset showed a poorer total performance on the gambling task and a lower improvement on the performance of the task compared to no-abusers.
ConclusionsPre-psychotic cannabis abuse is associated with decision-making impairment, but not working memory and executive function impairment, among first-episode patients with a schizophrenia-spectrum psychosis. Further studies are needed to examine the direction of causality of this impairment; that is, does the impairment make the patients abuse cannabis, or does cannabis abuse cause the impairment?

We demonstrate that the dynamics of a rigid body falling in an infinite viscous fluid can, in the Stokes limit, be reduced to the study of a three-dimensional system of ordinary differential equations ${\dot\Grav} \,{=}\, \Grav\times M_2\Grav$ where $M_2\,{\in}\,{{\mathbb R}^{3\times 3}}$ is a generally non-symmetric matrix containing certain hydrodynamic mobility coefficients. We further show that all steady states and their stability properties can be classified in terms of the Schur form of $M_2$. Steady states correspond to screw motions (or limits thereof) in which the centre of mass traces a helical path, while the body spins uniformly about the vertical. All rigid bodies have at least one such stable screw motion. Bodies for which $M_2$ has exactly one real eigenvalue have a unique globally attracting asymptotically stable screw motion, while other bodies can have multiple, stable and unstable steady motions. One application of our theory is to the case of rigid filaments, which in turn is a first step in modelling the sedimentation rate of flexible polymers such as DNA. For rigid filaments the matrix $M_2$ can be approximated using the Rotne–Prager theory, and we present various examples corresponding to certain ideal shapes of knots which illustrate the various possible multiplicities of steady states. Our simulations of rigid ideal knots in a Stokes fluid predict an approximate linear relation between sedimentation speed and average crossing number, as has been observed experimentally for the much more complicated system of real DNA knots in gel electrophoresis.
Participatory on-farm evaluation of the response to concentrate supplementation by cows in early lactation in smallholder peasant (campesino) dairy production systems in the highlands of central Mexico

Concentrates are the main cash expenditure in smallholder campesino dairying in the highlands of Central Mexico. Improved, low-cost, appropriate feeding strategies have been therefore identified by campesinos as a priority. An on-farm trial was undertaken in 1998 to evaluate the response to supplementation with concentrates by dairy cows in early lactation during the rainy season with restricted access to grazing of ryegrass/white clover pastures. A base of 3·0 kg commercial concentrate/cow/day (S3) was compared against the higher rate used by farmers of 5·0 kg/cow/day (S5). Three farmers with one, and one farmer with two pairs of freshly calved upgraded Holstein cows participated in the trial (24±10·7 days into lactation). Data were analysed by a random block split-plot design where supplementation treatments were main plots and measurement periods were split-plots. Milk yield was recorded once per week for 9 weeks, and live weight and condition score for four 28 day periods. Milk yields were 21·8 for S3 and 21·9 for S5 (±0·714) kg milk/day/cow (P > 0·05); live weight S3 = 444·0 and S5 = 496·0 (±12·663) kg/cow (P > 0·05), and condition score S3 = 1·9, and S5 = 1·8 (±1·127) (P >0·05). There were no significant (P> 0·05) effects of measurement periods, and there was no significant (P > 0·05) interaction. The lack of response in milk yield, live weight or condition score to increased concentrate supplementation demonstrates that at these levels of production and management, the access to grazing of improved pastures, plus limited concentrate, enables cows in campesino systems to meet their nutrient requirements, and the feasibility of efficient milk production from grazed pastures as an appropriate technology. It is also concluded that it is an appropriate technology and that the results have implications for research and extension workers in rural development who have promoted large amounts of concentrate to dairy cows as the only way towards high yields and efficient milk production.
Correlation between Structural and Optical Properties of Si Nanocrystals in SiO2: Model for the Visible Light Emission

The correlation between the structural and optical properties of Si nanocrystals embedded in SiO2 is the key factor to understand their emission mechanism. However, there is a great difficulty in imaging Si nanocrystals in SiO2 and measuring their size distribution because of the lack of contrast in electron microscopy. We have used here a new method for imaging Si nanocrystals by using high resolution electron microscopy in conjunction with conventional electron microscopy in dark field conditions. Regarding the optical properties, the band-gap energies and photoluminescence have been measured by direct and independent methods. The results have allowed experimental determination, for the first time in this material, of the experimental Stokes shift between absorption and emission as a function of crystallite size. The experimental band-gap versus size correlates well with the most accurate theoretical predictions. Moreover, the photoluminescence energy emission versus crystallite size shows a parallel behaviour to that of band-gap energy. Consequently, the experimental Stokes shift is independent of nanocrystal size and is found to be 0.26±0.03 eV. This value is almost twice the energy of the Si-O vibration (0.134 eV). These results suggest that the dominant emission of Si nanocrystals passivated with SiO2 is a fundamental transition spatially located at the Si-SiO2 interface and with the assistance of a local Si-O vibration.
The Effect of Cu-Macroalloying Additions to Rapidly Solidified NiAl Intermetallic Compound

The effects of two variables on the NiAl intermetallic compound were studied: 1) copper macroalloying additions and 2) rapid solidification processing. For that purpose, several NiCuAl alloys were vacuum induction melted and rapidly solidified by using a copper wheel, rotating at 15 m/s, under an argon atmosphere. Chemical analysis of as-rapidly solidified ribbons indicated, that four alloy compositions lie in the β-(Ni, Cu)Al field, one alloy composition lie in the boundary of the β-(Ni, Cu)Al/(Ni, Cu)2Al3 fields, one alloy composition lies in the boundary of the β-(Ni, Cu)Al/β-(Ni, Cu)Al + (Ni, Cu)3Al fields and two alloy compositions lie in the β-(Ni, Cu)Al + (Ni, Cu)3Al field. Transmission electron microscopic observations carried out in as-rapidly solidified ribbons, revealed the presence of at least three main structures: i) β-(Ni, Cu)Al, ii) β-(Ni, Cu)Al + martensite (Ni, Cu)Al and iii) (Ni, Cu)3Al + martensite (Ni, Cu)Al. Microhardness Vickers and tensile test data indicated that alloys with a β-(Ni, Cu)Al + martensite (Ni, Cu)Al microstructure have improved room temperature ductility, reaching values of elongation up to 3.28 %.
