Introduction:
Although, attempts to apply virtual reality (VR) in mental healthcare are rapidly increasing, it is still unclear whether VR relaxation can reduce stress more than conventional biofeedback.
Methods:Participants consisted of 83 healthy adult volunteers with high stress, which was defined as a score of 20 or more on the Perceived Stress Scale-10 (PSS-10). This study used an open, randomized, crossover design with baseline, stress, and relaxation phases. During the stress phase, participants experienced an intentionally generated shaking VR and serial-7 subtraction. For the relaxation phase, participants underwent a randomly assigned relaxation session on day 1 among VR relaxation and biofeedack, and the other type of relaxation session was applied on day 2. We compared the StateTrait Anxiety Inventory-X1 (STAI-X1), STAI-X2, the Numeric Rating Scale (NRS), and physiological parameters including heart rate variability (HRV) indexes in the stress and relaxation phases.
Results:A total of 74 participants were included in the analyses. The median age of participants was 39 years, STAI-X1 was 47.27 (SD = 9.92), and NRS was 55.51 (SD = 24.48) at baseline. VR and biofeedback significantly decreased STAI-X1 and NRS from the stress phase to the relaxation phase, while the difference of effect between VR and biofeedback was not significant. However, there was a significant difference in electromyography, LF/HF ratio, LF total, and NN50 between VR relaxation and biofeedback
Conclusion:VR relaxation was effective in reducing subjectively reported stress in individuals with high stress.

Though food insecurity has long been recognised to impact health, population-specific determinants of food insecurity have recently been studied systematically as an important public health concern. Indeed, while immigrant populations face particular challenges to equitable access to the food system, many of these concerns have not been systematically described. To this end, we critically review recent work that demonstrates the importance of transportation and language access as independent determinants of access to food for immigrant populations. Furthermore, we highlight proposals to mitigate barriers to access, including both academic and community-driven approaches to create overlapping institutional commitments for inclusive policymaking that meets the specific needs of diverse populations.

Selenium (Se) has been known for many years to have played a role in boosting the immune function, but the manner in which this element acts at the molecular level in host defence and inflammatory diseases is poorly understood. To elucidate the role of Se-containing proteins in the immune function, we knocked out the expression of this protein class in T-cells or macrophages of mice by targeting the removal of the selenocysteine tRNA gene using loxP-Cre technology. Mice with selenoprotein-less T-cells manifested reduced pools of mature and functional T-cells in lymphoid tissues and an impairment in T-cell-dependent antibody responses. Furthermore, selenoprotein deficiency in T-cells led to an inability of these cells to suppress reactive oxygen species production, which in turn affected their ability to proliferate in response to T-cell receptor stimulation. Selenoprotein-less macrophages, on the other hand, manifested mostly normal inflammatory responses, but this deficiency resulted in an altered regulation in extracellular matrix-related gene expression and a diminished migration of macrophages in a protein gel matrix. These observations provided novel insights into the role of selenoproteins in the immune function and tissue homeostasis.

We have grown vertically aligned carbon nanotubes on a large area of Co-Ni codeposited Si substrates by thermal chemical vapor deposition using C2H2 gas. The carbon nanotubes grown by the thermal chemical vapor deposition are multi-wall structure, and the wall surface of nanotubes is covered with defective graphite sheets or carbonaceous particles. The carbon nanotubes range from 50 to 120 nm in diameter and about 130 μm in length at 950 °C. Steric hindrance between nanotubes at an initial stage of the growth forces nanotubes to align vertically. The turn-on voltage was about 0.8 V/μm with a current density of 0.1 μA/cm2 and emission current reveals the Fowler-Nordheim mode.

The experimental results regarding to the effects of ultraviolet (UV) light illumination on the characteristics of hydrogenated amorphous silicon (a-Si:H) thin film transistors (TFT's) have been presented. The device parameters of a-Si:H TFT, such as threshold voltage, field-effect mobility, and subthreshold slope, have been degraded by electrical stress and visible light illumination, but substantially improved by UV radiation. This may be attributed to an annealing effect on the dangling-bond defects, involving a number of phonons generated by absorption of high energy UV photons in the a-Si:H TFT channel. It has been also observed that the off-current of a-Si:H TFT decreases remarkably while the on-current changes very little. From the experimental results, we report that the improved on/off current ratio of a-Si:H TFT may be achieved by UV radiation.

We presents a new model for the series resistance of an amorphous silicon (a-Si) thin film transistor (TFT) with an inverted-staggered configuration, considering the current spreading under the source and the drain contacts as well as the space charge limited current. The calculated results of our model have been in good agreements with the measured data over a wide range of applied voltage, gate-to-source and gate-to-drain overlap length, channel length, and operating temperature. Our model shows that the relative contribution of the series resistances to the current-voltage (I-V) characteristics of the a-Si TFT in the linear regime is more significant at low drain and high gate voltages, for short channel and small overlap length, and at low operating temperature, which has been verified successfully by the experimental measurements.

The experimental and analytical results regarding to the effects of temperature and electrical stress on the characteristics of amorphous silicon thin-film transistors (a-Si TFT's) have been presented. The variations in the device parameters of a-Si TFT, such as threshold voltage and field-effect mobility, have been examined under various operating temperatures and electrical stress conditions. The hysteresis in the transfer characteristics and the trapped charges at the a-Si/silicon nitride interface were measured at the operating temperature ranges. From the experimental results, it has been found out that the increase of the interface charge trapping may be responsible for the degradation in the a-Si TFT characteristics. Also, an analytical formulation, employing the interface charge trapping, is presented to clarify the instability phenomena and verified successfully with the experimental results.

We present a new analytical model of amorphous silicon thin-film transistor (a-Si TFT) suitable for circuit simulators such as SPICE. The effects of localized gap state distributions of a-Si as well as temperatures on the a-Si TFT performances have been fully considered in the presented model. The parameters used in SPICE, such as transconductance, channel-length modulation, and power factor of source-drain current, are evaluated from the measured current-voltage and capacitance-voltage characteristics by employing the proposed extraction method. It has been found out that the analytical model is in good agreement with experimental data at both room temperature and elevated temperature and successfully implemented in a widely used circuit simulator.

The structural perfection and defects of Ag films deposited by molecular beam epitaxy (MBE) on Si(ll1) and Si(001) substrates have been analyzed by x-ray diffraction, Rutherford Backscattering (RBS)/channeling and electron microscopy. In spite of the large lattice mismatch (∼25 %) between Ag and Si, relatively high-quality Ag single crystal films (6∼10 % surface minimum yield) were grown on both Si(111) and Si(001) substrates. The primary defects contained in the Ag/Si(111) were double-positioning twins. The quantity of twinning depends on the film thickness and the substrate condition. For both Ag/Si(111) and Ag/Si(001) epitaxial systems, a high density defect region was contained in the Ag film within ∼1000 Å of the interface. Ag films grown on misoriented Si(l11) substrates ( 4° off normal ) were misoriented by 0.5° towards the surface normal. Possible explanations of these defect formations associated with the large lattice mismatch are presented.

600∼4000Å thick Ag films grown on 3∼4· misoriented Si(111) substrates by molecular beam epitaxy (MBE) technique have been studied by using x-ray pole-figure analysis and MeV He+ Rutherford Backscattering Spectrometry (RBS)/channeling technique. X-ray pole-figure measurements revealed that despite the large lattice mismatch (∼25%) between Ag and Si, Ag films with epitaxial relationship Ag(111)//Si(111):Ag[011]//Si[011] were grown with a small quantity (15∼20%) of twin structure. The <111> axial channeling minimum yield (Xmin) is reduced at the Ag surface as the Ag film thickness increases. These films were thermally stable up to 500°C annealing but the twinning disappeared after annealing
