Objective:
Agricultural workers are immersed in environments associated with increased risk for adverse psychiatric and neurological outcomes. Agricultural work-related risks to brain health include exposure to pesticides, heavy metals, and organic dust. Despite this, there is a gap in our understanding of the underlying brain systems impacted by these risks. This study explores clinical and cognitive domains, and functional brain activity in agricultural workers. We hypothesized that a history of agricultural work-related risks would be associated with poorer clinical and cognitive outcomes as well as changes in functional brain activity within cortico-striatal regions.
Participants and Methods:The sample comprised 17 agricultural workers and a comparison group of 45 non-agricultural workers recruited in the Northern Colorado area. All participants identified as White and non-Hispanic. The mean age of participants was 51.7 years (SD = 21.4, range 18-77), 60% identified as female, and 37% identified as male. Participants completed the National Institute of Health Toolbox (NIH Toolbox) and Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) on their first visit. During the second visit, they completed NIH Patient-Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System (PROMIS) measures and underwent functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI; N = 15 agriculture and N = 35 non-agriculture) while completing a working memory task (Sternberg). Blood oxygen-level dependent (BOLD) response was compared between participants. Given the small sample size, the whole brain voxel-wise group comparison threshold was set at alpha = .05, but not otherwise corrected for multiple comparisons. Cohen’s d effect sizes were estimated for all voxels.
Results:Analyses of cognitive scores showed significant deficits in episodic memory for the agricultural work group. Additionally, the agricultural work group scored higher on measures of self-reported anger, cognitive concerns, and social participation. Analyses of fMRI data showed increased BOLD activity around the orbitofrontal cortex (medium to large effects) and bilaterally in the entorhinal cortex (large effects) for the agricultural work group. The agricultural work group also showed decreased BOLD activity in the cerebellum and basal ganglia (medium to large effects).
Conclusions:To our knowledge, this study provides the first-ever evidence showing differences in brain activity associated with a history of working in agriculture. These findings of poorer memory, concerns about cognitive functioning, and increased anger suggest clinical relevance. Social participation associated with agricultural work should be explored as a potential protective factor for cognition and brain health. Brain imaging data analyses showed increased activation in areas associated with motor functioning, cognitive control, and emotion. These findings are limited by small sample size, lack of diversity in our sample, and coarsely defined risk. Despite these limitations, the results are consistent with an overall concern that risks associated with agricultural work can lead to cognitive and psychiatric harm via changes in brain health. Replications and future studies with larger sample sizes, more diverse participants, and more accurately defined risks (e.g., pesticide exposure) are needed.

Background:
Peri-diagnostic vaccination contemporaneous with SARS-CoV-2 infection might boost antiviral immunity and improve patient outcomes. We investigated, among previously unvaccinated patients, whether vaccination (with the Pfizer, Moderna, or J&J vaccines) during the week before or after a positive COVID-19 test was associated with altered 30-day patient outcomes.
Methods:Using a deidentified longitudinal EHR repository, we selected all previously unvaccinated adults who initially tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 between December 11, 2020 (the date of vaccine emergency use approval) and December 19, 2021. We assessed whether vaccination between days –7 and +7 of a positive test affected outcomes. The primary measure was progression to a more severe disease outcome within 30 days of diagnosis using the following hierarchy: hospitalization, intensive care, or death.
Results:Among 60,031 hospitalized patients, 543 (0.91%) were initially vaccinated at the time of diagnosis and 59,488 (99.09%) remained unvaccinated during the period of interest. Among 316,337 nonhospitalized patients, 2,844 (0.90%) were initially vaccinated and 313,493 (99.1%) remained unvaccinated. In both analyses, individuals receiving vaccines were older, more often located in the northeast, more commonly insured by Medicare, and more burdened by comorbidities. Among previously unvaccinated patients, there was no association between receiving an initial vaccine dose between days −7 and +7 of diagnosis and progression to more severe disease within 30 days compared to patients who did not receive vaccines.
Conclusions:Immunization during acute SARS-CoV-2 infection does not appear associated with clinical progression during the acute infectious period.

The global trend of urbanization coupled with an increasing awareness of the importance of food systems resilience, has led to an increasing interest in urban agriculture to sustainably feed the rapidly growing urban population and mitigate against food supply chain disruptions. While home and community gardens have been long studied, there has been relatively little empirical research focused specifically on commercial urban agriculture (CUA) operations. The purpose of this study was to characterize commercial urban farms, and to identify their primary barriers to business development and expansion, their perceptions of future opportunities, and their specific informational needs. Because CUA has received relatively less attention in previous empirical research, a qualitative approach was used for this needs assessment to collect rich, contextualized information to help differentiate the specific barriers, opportunities and needs of CUA operations as opposed to their rural counterparts. We conducted semi-structured interviews (n = 29) of CUA producers in Florida. These interviews revealed that CUA operations face many of the same barriers that are common to establishing and growing small farms, with additional barriers due to local government regulations and tensions associated with farming on land that is not traditionally used for agriculture. Despite these difficulties, CUA operators believe their urban location is a key benefit to their operation and they see a variety of opportunities for future business and market expansion.

Aims and method
This systematic review examines the effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of behavioural health integration into primary healthcare in the management of depression and unhealthy alcohol use in low- and middle-income countries. Following PRISMA guidelines, this review included research that studied patients aged ≥18 years with unhealthy alcohol use and/or depression of any clinical severity. An exploration of the models of integration was used to characterise a typology of behavioural health integration specific for low- and middle-income countries.
ResultsFifty-eight articles met inclusion criteria. Studies evidenced increased effectiveness of integrated care over treatment as usual for both conditions. The economic evaluations found increased direct health costs but cost-effective estimates. The included studies used six distinct behavioural health integration models.
Clinical implicationsBehavioural health integration may yield improved health outcomes, although it may require additional resources. The proposed typology can assist decision-makers to advance the implementation of integrated models.

Most epidemiologic studies employ a vacuum cleaner used by a trained technician to collect household allergens. This approach is labor intensive, equipment dependent, and impractical if study subjects reside over a wide geographic area. We examined the feasibility of a self-administered dust collection method, using an electrostatic cloth sent by conventional mail, to obtain allergen measurements. Thirty-two nonasthmatic twins from the California Twin Program wiped areas in the family room, kitchen, and bedroom, according to standardized instructions, and returned the cloths by mail. Allergen concentrations for Der-p-1, Der-f-1, Fel-d-1, and Bla-g-2 were determined using ELISA, and intrahouse and room-to-room concentrations were compared. Der-p-1 and Fel-d-1 were found in most homes, with highest concentrations in bedrooms and kitchens, respectively. Der-f-1 and Bla-g-2 were rarely found. Intrahouse Der-p-1 and Fel-d-1 concentrations were highly correlated and statistically significant (for Der-p-1, bedroom vs. kitchen, p = .0003, bedroom vs. family room, p = .0001, and family room vs. kitchen, p = .002; for Fel-d-1, bedroom vs. kitchen, p = .0004, bedroom vs. family room, p < .0001, and family room vs. kitchen, p = .0001). Reported cat ownership was strongly correlated with household Fel-d-1 concentrations (p < .005). In another comparison from different homes of children enrolled in the La Casa atopy prevention study, allergen concentrations measured from dust collected by a single operator from the left and right half of the same room in 21 homes were compared. Levels of Bla-g-2, Der-p-1, and Fel-d-1 concentrations collected from right and left halves of the same room were highly correlated, with r2 ranging from .7 to .9, and were highly statistically significant (all p values < .01). We conclude that nonintrusive and self-administered dust collection, using commercially available electrostatic dust cloths, sent by conventional mail services, is a promising alternative to technician-collected vacuumed dust for measuring indoor allergens in population-based studies, although further validation of the method is necessary.

This document presents Java-based software called xSonify that uses a sonification technique (the adaptation of sound to convey information) to promote discovery in astronomical data. The prototype is designed to analyze two-dimensional data, such as time-series data. We demonstrate the utility of the sonification technique with examples applied to X-ray astronomy and solar data. We have identified frequencies in the Chandra X-Ray observations of EX Hya, a cataclysmic variable of the intermediate polar type. In another example we study the impact of a major solar flare, with its associated coronal mass ejection (CME), on the solar wind plasma (in particular the solar wind between the Sun and the Earth), and the Earth's magnetosphere.

The San Pedro Mártir kinematic catalogue of galactic planetary nebulae provides spatially resolved, long-slit, Echelle spectra for about 600 planetary nebulae, representing 55 observing runs and about 4000 individual integrations to date in this first release. The project is ongoing and will continue adding spectra to the database. The data are presented wavelength calibrated and corrected for heliocentric motion. This is the most extensive and homogeneous single source of data concerning the internal kinematics of the ionized nebular material in planetary nebulae. The catalogue is available through the world wide web at http://kincatpn.astrosen.unam.mx and an article will a full description of the catalogue will soon appear in the RevMexAA.

Background: Spanish-language screening tests that are sensitive to the early cognitive changes of Alzheimer's disease (AD) are needed. Persons known to be at 50% risk for young-onset AD due to presenilin-1 (PSEN1) mutations provide the opportunity to assess which measures on the Mini-mental State Examination (MMSE) are most sensitive to these early changes.
Methods: We performed genetic and Spanish-language cognitive testing on 50 Mexican persons without dementia at risk for inheriting PSEN1 mutations. We then compared the performance on sub-items of the MMSE between PSEN1 mutation carriers (MCs) and non-carriers (NCs) using t-tests and Fisher's exact tests. Exploratory multiple logistic regression analyses were also performed.
Results: Twenty-nine persons were MCs and 21 NCs. NCs tended to achieve higher levels of education (p = 0.039) than did MCs. MCs tended to perform more poorly when spelling “MUNDO” backwards and on Orientation, particularly regarding the date. In multiple regression analyses the ability of backwards spelling to predict PSEN1 mutation status was reduced when education was included as an independent variable.
Conclusion: Subjects in the earliest stage of PSEN1-related AD showed deficits on orientation to date and in divided attention when spelling backwards. It is unclear if educational level should be considered an associated feature or a con-founding variable in this population although it should be taken into account when considering performance on the MMSE task of divided attention. The relative lack of deficits on delayed recall of three words probably represents the insensitivity of this measure in early AD. This study supports the utility of autosomal dominant AD as a model of the more common sporadic form of the disorder.
