We present the Sydney Radio Star Catalogue, a new catalogue of stars detected at megahertz to gigahertz radio frequencies. It consists of 839 unique stars with 3 405 radio detections, more than doubling the previously known number of radio stars. We have included stars from large area searches for radio stars found using circular polarisation searches, cross-matching, variability searches, and proper motion searches as well as presenting hundreds of newly detected stars from our search of Australian SKA Pathfinder observations. The focus of this first version of the catalogue is on objects detected in surveys using SKA precursor and pathfinder instruments; however, we will expand this scope in future versions. The 839 objects in the Sydney Radio Star Catalogue are distributed across the whole sky and range from ultracool dwarfs to Wolf-Rayet stars. We demonstrate that the radio luminosities of cool dwarfs are lower than the radio luminosities of more evolved sub-giant and giant stars. We use X-ray detections of 530 radio stars by the eROSITA soft X-ray instrument onboard the Spectrum Roentgen Gamma spacecraft to show that almost all of the radio stars in the catalogue are over-luminous in the radio, indicating that the majority of stars at these radio frequencies are coherent radio emitters. Disordered eating (DE) is associated with elevated cardiometabolic risk (CMR) factors, yet little is known about this association in non-Western countries. We examined the association between DE characteristics and CMR and tested the potential mediating role of BMI. This cross-sectional study included 2005 Chinese women (aged 18–50 years) from the 2015 China Health and Nutrition Survey. Loss of control, restraint, shape concern and weight concern were assessed using selected questions from the SCOFF questionnaire and the Eating Disorder Examination-Questionnaire. Eight CMR were measured by trained staff. Generalised linear models examined associations between DE characteristics with CMR accounting for dependencies between individuals in the same household. We tested whether BMI potentially mediated significant associations using structural equation modelling. Shape concern was associated with systolic blood pressure (β (95 % CI) 0·06 (0·01, 0·10)), diastolic blood pressure (DBP) (0·07 (95 % CI 0·03, 0·11)) and high-density lipoprotein (HDL)-cholesterol (–0·08 (95 % CI –0·12, −0·04)). Weight concern was associated with DBP (0·06 (95 % CI 0·02, 0·10)), triglyceride (0·06 (95 % CI 0·02, 0·10)) and HDL-cholesterol (–0·10 (95 % CI –0·14, −0·07)). Higher scores on DE characteristics were associated with higher BMI, and higher BMI was further associated with lower HDL-cholesterol and higher other CMR. In summary, we observed significant associations between shape and weight concerns with some CMR in Chinese women, and these associations were potentially partially mediated by BMI. Our findings suggest that prevention and intervention strategies focusing on addressing DE could potentially help reduce the burden of CMR in China, possibly through controlling BMI.

This study explores the pig-raising practices of Chinese migrants in Los Angeles Chinatown during the Chinese Exclusion Era. Chinese butcher shops sold pork meat, and previous research indicates that they likely sold the more profitable parts outside of Chinatown for additional income while consuming cheaper cuts themselves. Using dental calculus analysis and archival research, this study further explores how Chinatown residents relied on pork to thrive in an anti-Chinese environment. Dental calculus results suggest that Chinese migrants raised their own pigs with food waste and by-products from rice fields; this pork was then sold to meat markets or consumed within the community. The analysis of immigration records indicates that Chinese butcher shops provided employment opportunities as well as housing, banking, and immigration support for Chinese migrants. Pig raising, therefore, not only supplied a source of meat for Chinese migrants but also supported a range of social and financial services for a marginalized group that faced everyday discrimination from dominant society. Overall, this study traces the labor and networks that small businesses in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries needed to source and distribute pork, and it highlights how a Chinese diasporic community developed a pork production system to resist racism.

Background: Hospital surfaces are known to contribute to the spread of healthcare-associated infections (HAIs). Environmental sampling is often performed to locate a reservoir or to evaluate intervention strategies in healthcare facilities. Composite sampling is commonly practiced in other fields of environmental sampling and involves collection of multiple samples combined entirely or partially to form a new sample. We compared a standard CDC surface whole-tool sampling method with a composite sampling approach. Methods: Acinetobacter baumannii (AB), Klebsiella pneumoniae that produce K. pneumoniae carbapenemase (KPC), vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus faecalis (VRE), methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), and Clostridioides difficile spores were suspended in an artificial soil and deposited as 40 µL droplets (~104 CFU total) onto steel coupons of surface areas 323 cm2, 645 cm2, or 1,290 cm2 and dried for 2 hours. The surfaces were sampled with a single pass of a cellulose sponge— either the larger side of the sponge (face) or the smaller side of the sponge (edge)—and the optimal surface area was determined. Recovery from the optimal surface area with a single pass sampling was compared to the recovery using a standard CDC method in which all sides were used (ie, whole-tool method) to sample a standard area (645 cm2). Recovery was determined by culture and total CFU were determined for each optimal surface area. Theoretical composites were constructed using the mean total CFU of optimal surface area; 2×((face) + (edge)). Significance was set at P ≤ .05. Results: Total CFU recovery using the whole-tool method was significantly greater than the single pass sample recovery for MRSA (18,300 vs 16,600 CFU) and VRE (27,600 vs 26,400 CFU) (P < .05). When comparing the theoretical composite method to the standard whole-tool area (625 cm2), the theoretical composite total CFU was significantly greater than the whole-tool method for all organisms. For example, VRE recovery with the standard CDC whole-tool method was 27,600 CFU from 625 cm2, yet a theoretical composite approach recovered 79,800 CFU from an area of 1,290 cm2. Conclusions: Many factors influence recovery when sampling the environment, and composite sampling is a promising approach when sampling large surface areas. Using a theoretical composite of single-pass samples, the potential for improved detection with composite sampling was demonstrated. A composite sampling approach will reduce time and resources for sampling and sample processing, allowing larger surface areas to be investigated which will improve infection control strategies.

During the current global COVID-19 crisis Taiwan has portrayed itself as both an example for other countries to follow and as a country willing to assist others in their own efforts with the virus. Taiwan has also renewed efforts to participate in the World Health Organization (WHO), an organisation from which it is currently excluded. Although some countries have supported Taiwan's efforts to participate in the WHO or have praised its COVID-19 response, others have been silent or even critical, sometimes citing commitments to a “one China policy.” In this paper, we use newly collected data to explore cross-national variation in support for Taiwan during the current pandemic. We find that a country's level of economic development and security ties with the US are strongly correlated with support for Taiwan while a country's economic ties to China is a less consistent predictor.

Flocked and foam swabs were used to sample five healthcare pathogens from three sizes of steel and plastic coupons; 26 cm2, 323 cm2, and 645 cm2. As surface area increased, 1–2 log10 decrease in recovered organisms (P < .05) was observed. Sampling 26-cm2 yielded the optimal median percent of pathogens recovered.

OBJECTIVES/GOALS: Disparities in pediatric kidney transplantation (KT) result in reduced access and worse outcomes for minority children. We aimed to assess the impact of recent systemic changes on these disparities. METHODS/STUDY POPULATION: Retrospective cohort study of pediatric patients utilizing data from the United States Renal Data System (USRDS) and Scientific Registry of Transplant Recipients (SRTR). We compared access to transplantation, time to deceased donor kidney transplant (DDKT), and allograft failure (ACGF) using Cox proportional hazards in the 4 years preceding KAS to the 4 years post-KAS implementation. RESULTS/ANTICIPATED RESULTS: Compared to the pre-KAS era, patients post-KAS were more likely to be pre-emptively listed (26.8% vs 38.1%, p<0.001) and pre-emptively transplanted (23.8% vs 28.0%, p<0.001), however these benefits were not uniform across racial groups. Only 12.7% and 15.7% of Black and Hispanic children received a pre-emptive transplant compared to 29.6%, 49.8% and 54.4% of White, Asian and Other race children respectively. Compared to White children, Black and Hispanic children had a lower likelihood of transplant listing within 2 years of first dialysis service aHR 0.67 (0.59-0.76) and 0.82 (0.73-0.92), in the post-KAS era. Time to DDKT after listing was comparable across all racial groups in both eras. Black children have disproportionally worse 5-yr ACGF, aHR 1.50 (1.08-2.09), p=0.02. DISCUSSION/SIGNIFICANCE: After KAS implementation there remains equity in time to DDKT, however disparities persist in transplant listing and ACGF among Black children. Further studies are needed to identify granular SES factors impacting delayed referral and systemic barriers to transplant, as well as risk factors for poor allograft outcomes among minority children.

Mars exploration motivates the search for extraterrestrial life, the development of space technologies, and the design of human missions and habitations. Here, we seek new insights and pose unresolved questions relating to the natural history of Mars, habitability, robotic and human exploration, planetary protection, and the impacts on human society. Key observations and findings include:

1. – high escape rates of early Mars' atmosphere, including loss of water, impact present-day habitability;

2. – putative fossils on Mars will likely be ambiguous biomarkers for life;

3. – microbial contamination resulting from human habitation is unavoidable; and

4. – based on Mars' current planetary protection category, robotic payload(s) should characterize the local martian environment for any life-forms prior to human habitation.

Some of the outstanding questions are:

1. – which interpretation of the hemispheric dichotomy of the planet is correct;

2. – to what degree did deep-penetrating faults transport subsurface liquids to Mars' surface;

3. – in what abundance are carbonates formed by atmospheric processes;

4. – what properties of martian meteorites could be used to constrain their source locations;

5. – the origin(s) of organic macromolecules;

6. – was/is Mars inhabited;

7. – how can missions designed to uncover microbial activity in the subsurface eliminate potential false positives caused by microbial contaminants from Earth;

8. – how can we ensure that humans and microbes form a stable and benign biosphere; and

9. – should humans relate to putative extraterrestrial life from a biocentric viewpoint (preservation of all biology), or anthropocentric viewpoint of expanding habitation of space?

Studies of Mars' evolution can shed light on the habitability of extrasolar planets. In addition, Mars exploration can drive future policy developments and confirm (or put into question) the feasibility and/or extent of human habitability of space.

Background: Antibiotics are frequently prescribed in nursing homes, often inappropriately. Data sources are needed to facilitate measurement and reporting of antibiotic use to inform antibiotic stewardship efforts. Previous analyses have shown that the type of nursing-home stay, that is, short stay (<100 days), is a strong predictor of high antibiotic use compared to longer nursing-home stays. The study objective was to compare 2 different data sources, electronic health record (EHR) and long-term care (LTC) pharmacy data, for surveillance of antibiotic use and type of nursing-home stay. Methods: EHR and pharmacy data during 2017 were included from 1,933 and 1,348 US-based nursing homes, respectively. We compared data elements available in each data source for antibiotic use reporting. In each data set, we attempted to describe antibiotic use as the proportion of residents on an antibiotic, days-of-therapy (DOT) per 1,000 resident days (RD), and distribution of antibiotic course duration, overall and at the facility level. Facility proportion of short-stay and long-stay (>100 days) nursing-home residents were calculated using admission dates and census data in the EHR data set and a payor variable in the pharmacy data set (Figure 1). The 2 data sources also provided antibiotic characteristics, including antibiotic class, agent, and route of administration. The deidentified nature of facility data prevented direct comparison of antibiotic use measures between facilities. Results: The EHR and pharmacy data sets contained 381,382 and 326,713 residents, respectively (Table 1). Within the EHR, 51% of residents were prescribed an antibiotic in 2017, at a median rate of 77 DOT per 1,000 RD. In the LTC pharmacy, 46% of residents were prescribed an antibiotic at a median rate of 79 DOT per 1,000 RD (Table 1). Short-stay residents contributed a smaller proportion of total RDs in the EHR relative to the pharmacy cohort (21% vs 50%, respectively). Conclusions: Nursing-home antibiotic use data obtained from EHR and pharmacy vendors can be used for calculating antibiotic use measures, which is important for antibiotic use reporting and facility-level tracking to identify opportunities for improving prescribing practices and provide facility-level benchmarks. Further validation of both data sources in the same facilities is needed to compare antibiotic use rates and to determine the most appropriate proxy for type of nursing-home stay for facility-level risk adjustment of antibiotic use rates.

Sponges and swabs were evaluated for their ability to recover Candida auris dried 1 hour on steel and plastic surfaces. Culture recovery ranged from <0.1% (sponges) to 8.4% (swabs), and cells detected with an esterase activity assay revealed >50% recovery (swabs), indicating that cells may enter a viable but nonculturable state.

We use the SPace Infrared telescope for Cosmology and Astrophysics (SPICA) project as a template to demonstrate how deep spectrophotometric surveys covering large cosmological volumes over extended fields (1– $15\, \rm{deg^2}$ ) with a mid-IR imaging spectrometer (17– $36\, \rm{\rm{\upmu m}}$ ) in conjunction with deep $70\, \rm{\rm{\upmu m}}$ photometry with a far-IR camera, at wavelengths which are not affected by dust extinction can answer the most crucial questions in current galaxy evolution studies. A SPICA-like mission will be able for the first time to provide an unobscured three-dimensional (3D, i.e. x, y, and redshift z) view of galaxy evolution back to an age of the universe of less than $\sim$ 2 Gyrs, in the mid-IR rest frame. This survey strategy will produce a full census of the Star Formation Rate (SFR) in the universe, using polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH) bands and fine-structure ionic lines, reaching the characteristic knee of the galaxy luminosity function, where the bulk of the population is distributed, at any redshift up to $z \sim 3.5$ . Deep follow-up pointed spectroscopic observations with grating spectrometers onboard the satellite, across the full IR spectral range (17– $210\, \rm{\rm{\upmu m}}$ ), would simultaneously measure Black Hole Accretion Rate (BHAR), from high-ionisation fine-structure lines, and SFR, from PAH and low- to mid-ionisation lines in thousands of galaxies from solar to low metallicities, down to the knee of their luminosity functions. The analysis of the resulting atlas of IR spectra will reveal the physical processes at play in evolving galaxies across cosmic time, especially its heavily dust-embedded phase during the activity peak at the cosmic noon ( $z \sim 1$ –3), through IR emission lines and features that are insensitive to the dust obscuration.
