A novel excretory–secretory (ES) protein of Trichinella pseudospiralis was produced. A cDNA library was constructed from mRNA of muscle larvae at 30 days post infection (p.i.) and immunoscreened with the antibody against ES products. A clone, designated Tp22-3, contained a cDNA transcript of 815 bp in length with a single open reading frame which encoded 244-amino acids (28407 Da in the estimated molecular mass). A database search revealed that no sequences had a homology to this predicted protein. The recombinant protein was produced in an Escherichia coli expression system. Stage specific expression of this protein was suggested from the following experiments. An antibody against the recombinant protein could stain proteins migrating at about 28 kDa (which is the expected size from the sequence) on Western blotting of crude extracts or ES products from 30 days p.i. muscle larvae, but failed to stain any proteins in crude extracts from newborn larvae or 15 days p.i. muscle larvae. The antibody reacted to the stichocytes of larvae at 30 days p.i., but did not react to 15 days p.i. muscle larvae. The production of an mRNA transcript for Tp22-3 gene was restricted largely to the 30 days p.i. muscle larvae and adult worms.
Recombinant protein was produced from the cDNA library of Trichinella pseudospiralis, which seemed to form part of the excretory–secretory (ES) products. The library was constructed from cDNA of muscle larvae at 1 month post-infection, and immunoscreened with antibody against T. pseudospiralis ES products. A clone, designated Tp21-3, contained a cDNA transcript of 657 bp in length with a single open reading frame, which encoded 172 amino acids (19617 Da in the estimated molecular mass). The predicted amino acid sequence of clone Tp21-3 had a similarity of 76% to that of clone ORF 17.20 (GenBank under accession number U88239) from T. spiralis. The recombinant fusion proteins encoded by clone Tp21-3 were produced in an Escherichia coli expression system and affinity purified. On Western blotting analysis, Tp21-3 recombinant proteins migrated at 40 kDa and reacted to antibody against T. pseudospiralis ES products and T. pseudospiralis-infected sera. Sera were developed against Tp 21-3 recombinant proteins, which reacted to a single band migrating at 21 kDa in crude worm extract and ES products from T. pseudospiralis on Western blotting analysis, and reacted with stichocytes of T. pseudospiralis on immunohistochemical staining.
The nurse cell in the cyst of Trichinella spiralis comprises at least two kinds of cytoplasm, derived from muscle or satellite cells, as indicated by the pattern of staining using regular dye (haematoxylin and eosin, or toluidine blue), alkaline phosphatase (ALP) expression, acid phosphatase (ACP) expression and immunostaining with an anti-intermediate filament protein (desmin or keratin). Muscle cells undergo basophilic changes following a T. spiralis infection and transform to the nurse cells, accompanied by an increase in ACP activity and the disappearance of desmin. Satellite cells are activated, transformed and joined to the nurse cells but remain eosinophilic. The eosinophilic cytoplasm is accompanied by an increase in desmin and ALP expression but not an increase in ACP activity. Differences in the staining results for ALP or ACP suggest that the two kinds of cytoplasm have different functions. Trichinella pseudospiralis infection results in an increase of ACP activity at a later stage than T. spiralis. There is also a difference in the location pattern of ACP in the cyst of T. spiralis compared with T. pseudospiralis. In T. spiralis, ACP is diffused within the cell, but in T. pseudospiralis, ACP distribution is spotty corresponding to the location of the nucleus. Trichinella pseudospiralis infection is accompanied by a slight increase in ALP activity. Activated satellite cells following a T. pseudospiralis infection exhibit an increase in desmin expression. The present study therefore reveals that nurse cell cytoplasm differs between the two Trichinella species and between the two origins of cytoplasm in the cyst of T. spiralis.
A clone, designated as TsTM, was selected from the cDNA library of newborn larvae (NBL) of Trichinella spiralis through immunoscreening against infected sera. The clone contained a cDNA transcript of 855 bp in length with a single open reading frame, which encoded 285-amino acids (33 kDa in the estimated molecular weight). A sequence analysis revealed that the clone TsTM encoded the full-length of tropomyosin gene. The phylogenetic analysis of the tropomyosin gene was in good agreement with the classical taxonomical position of T. spiralis. The fusion proteins encoded by the clone TsTM were produced in an Escherichia coli expression system and affinity purified, and the antibody was raised against the protein for the following studies. The antibody against the fusion protein positively bound to the hypodermal muscle layer in immunolocalization analysis, and the 35 kDa band in crude extracts of muscle larvae but not in excretory and secretory (ES) products on Western blots. The antigenicity of the clone TsTM was recognized by host mice but exhibited little species specificity.
A survey was carried out to examine the attitudes of veterinarians in Taiwan towards animal welfare issues and current systems related to animal protection. The respondents were asked to express the extent to which they agreed with the importance of the Five Freedoms and relevant education in animal welfare. The survey was sent to 889 veterinarians and the response rate was 34%. According to the findings, veterinarians in Taiwan consider that current animal protection laws in Taiwan, and their relevant systems, are unable to protect animals effectively. They mostly have an uncertain attitude towards the statement that animal welfare can upgrade their professional abilities or enhance their image, in that they have a relative lack of awareness of animal welfare as well as also lacking further understanding of the importance and influence of animal welfare. However, many veterinarians strongly support the content of ‘The Five Freedoms’ and relevant training of animal welfare and ethics. Instead of denying the necessity and importance of the relevant issues, we consider that some veterinarians lack confidence in animal welfare merely because of a lack of relevant training. The results of the survey indicate that providing veterinarians with professional education of animal welfare is the first step which brooks no delay.
Background: In ALS, determining whether individuals have a substantial response to therapy is a challenge for the field. ALS naturally progresses at variable rates and a personalized approach is required to determine if individuals have a substantial response. A new method to evaluate individual response is proposed and applied to data from the CENTAUR trial of sodium phenylbutyrate/ursodoxicoltaurine (PB/TURSO). Methods: In a post hoc analysis, CENTAUR participants whose actual rate of change from baseline in the ALSFRS-R at week 18 was ≤ their own trial baseline progression rate (ΔFS) were defined as having a substantial individual response in slowing ALS progression. Results: Substantial individual response was observed in a greater proportion of participants receiving PB/TURSO (41%, n=87) vs placebo (19%, n=48; P=0.0076). Conclusions: Response versus ΔFS provides a personalized metric to determine substantial individual response in ALS. ΔFS has been shown to be highly correlated with, but to proportionally underestimate, ALSFRS-R decline in clinical trials. Consequently, those who outperform the ΔFS may be considered to have a substantial individual response. Application to CENTAUR data demonstrates a greater proportion of participants with a substantial individual response in the PB/TURSO arm. These methods may enable greater personalization and analysis of individual response in ALS.
The antipsychotic dosage of Chinese schizophrenia patients has rarely been studied, although nonstandard dosage has impact on prognosis.
Objectives
To describe the dosage of antipsychotics in China routine practice.
Methods
This was a retrospective cohort study using de-identified data from a Chinese mental health hospital. The included patients were adults (≥18 years) with at least one diagnosis of schizophrenia (ICD-10: F20) and one prescription of any antipsychotic between 2014 and 2019. Date of first identified antipsychotic prescription was defined as index date, patients were followed up until last prescription of antipsychotics, end of 2019, or discontinuation (>60 days without antipsychotic prescription), whichever was earliest. Dosage was summarized using defined daily dose (DDD), calculated by cumulative average daily dose (CAD) with a unit of DDDs/day, i.e., total DDDs of all antipsychotics in follow-up period divided by total days of follow-up. CAD was categorized into low (<0.5 DDDs/day), moderate (0.5-1.5 DDDs/day), and high (>1.5 DDDs/day) groups.
Results
13554 patients were included with an average follow-up of 269.9 days. Median CAD was 0.8 DDDs/day (IQR=0.5-1.3), patients with hospitalization during follow-up and used multiple antipsychotics at the same time had larger median CAD, 1.0 DDDs/day and 1.2 DDDs/days, respectively. There were 3245 (23.9%), 7627 (56.3%), and 2682 (19.8%) patients in low, moderate, and high groups, respectively. The median CAD of high dosage group was 2.5 DDDs/day (IQR=1.9-10.5).
Conclusions
CAD of most Chinese schizophrenia patients was low or moderate. Association between CAD and hospitalization and multiple concurrent antipsychotics merit further research.
Gravitational waves from coalescing neutron stars encode information about nuclear matter at extreme densities, inaccessible by laboratory experiments. The late inspiral is influenced by the presence of tides, which depend on the neutron star equation of state. Neutron star mergers are expected to often produce rapidly rotating remnant neutron stars that emit gravitational waves. These will provide clues to the extremely hot post-merger environment. This signature of nuclear matter in gravitational waves contains most information in the 2–4 kHz frequency band, which is outside of the most sensitive band of current detectors. We present the design concept and science case for a Neutron Star Extreme Matter Observatory (NEMO): a gravitational-wave interferometer optimised to study nuclear physics with merging neutron stars. The concept uses high-circulating laser power, quantum squeezing, and a detector topology specifically designed to achieve the high-frequency sensitivity necessary to probe nuclear matter using gravitational waves. Above 1 kHz, the proposed strain sensitivity is comparable to full third-generation detectors at a fraction of the cost. Such sensitivity changes expected event rates for detection of post-merger remnants from approximately one per few decades with two A+ detectors to a few per year and potentially allow for the first gravitational-wave observations of supernovae, isolated neutron stars, and other exotica.
In this paper, the generation of relativistic electron mirrors (REM) and the reflection of an ultra-short laser off the mirrors are discussed, applying two-dimension particle-in-cell simulations. REMs with ultra-high acceleration and expanding velocity can be produced from a solid nanofoil illuminated normally by an ultra-intense femtosecond laser pulse with a sharp rising edge. Chirped attosecond pulse can be produced through the reflection of a counter-propagating probe laser off the accelerating REM. In the electron moving frame, the plasma frequency of the REM keeps decreasing due to its rapid expansion. The laser frequency, on the contrary, keeps increasing due to the acceleration of REM and the relativistic Doppler shift from the lab frame to the electron moving frame. Within an ultra-short time interval, the two frequencies will be equal in the electron moving frame, which leads to the resonance between laser and REM. The reflected radiation near this interval and corresponding spectra will be amplified due to the resonance. Through adjusting the arriving time of the probe laser, a certain part of the reflected field could be selectively amplified or depressed, leading to the selective adjustment of the corresponding spectra.
Reducing dietary CP content is an effective approach to reduce animal nitrogen excretion and save protein feed resources. However, it is not clear how reducing dietary CP content affects the nutrient digestion and absorption in the gut of ruminants, therefore it is difficult to accurately determine how much reduction in dietary CP content is appropriate. This study was conducted to investigate the effects of reduced dietary CP content on N balance, intestinal nutrient digestion and absorption, and rumen microbiota in growing goats. To determine N balance, 18 growing wether goats (25.0 ± 0.5 kg) were randomly assigned to one of three diets: 13.0% (control), 11.5% and 10.0% CP. Another 18 growing wether goats (25.0 ± 0.5 kg) were surgically fitted with ruminal, proximate duodenal, and terminal ileal fistulae and were randomly assigned to one of the three diets to investigate intestinal amino acid (AA) absorption and rumen microbiota. The results showed that fecal and urinary N excretion of goats fed diets containing 11.5% and 10.0% CP were lower than those of goats fed the control diet (P < 0.05). When compared with goats fed the control diet, N retention was decreased and apparent N digestibility in the entire gastrointestinal tract was increased in goats fed the 10% CP diet (P < 0.05). When compared with goats fed the control diet, the duodenal flow of lysine, tryptophan and phenylalanine was decreased in goats fed the 11.5% CP diet (P < 0.05) and that of lysine, methionine, tryptophan, phenylalanine, leucine, glutamic acid, tyrosine, essential AAs (EAAs) and total AAs (TAAs) was decreased in goats fed the 10.0% CP diet (P < 0.05). When compared with goats fed the control diet, the apparent absorption of TAAs in the small intestine was increased in goats fed the 11.5% CP diet (P < 0.05) and that of isoleucine, serine, cysteine, EAAs, non-essential AAs, and TAAs in the small intestine was increased in goats fed the 10.0% CP diet (P < 0.05). When compared with goats fed the control diet, the relative richness of Bacteroidetes and Fibrobacteres was increased and that of Proteobacteria and Synergistetes was decreased in the rumen of goats fed a diet with 10.0% CP. In conclusion, reducing dietary CP content reduced N excretion and increased nutrient utilization by improving rumen fermentation, enhancing nutrient digestion and absorption, and altering rumen microbiota in growing goats.
Beef cattle are often fed high-concentrate diet (HCD) to achieve high growth rate. However, HCD feeding is strongly associated with metabolic disorders. Mild acid treatment of grains in HCD with 1% hydrochloric acid (HA) followed by neutralization with sodium bicarbonate (SB) might modify rumen fermentation patterns and microbiota, thereby decreasing the negative effects of HCD. This study was thus aimed to investigate the effects of treatment of corn with 1% HA and subsequent neutralization with SB on rumen fermentation and microbiota, inflammatory response and growth performance in beef cattle fed HCD. Eighteen beef cattle were randomly allocated to three groups and each group was fed different diets: low-concentrate diet (LCD) (concentrate : forage = 40 : 60), HCD (concentrate : forage = 60 : 40) or HCD based on treated corn (HCDT) with the same concentrate to forage ratio as the HCD. The corn in the HCDT was steeped in 1% HA (wt/wt) for 48 h and neutralized with SB after HA treatment. The animal trial lasted for 42 days with an adaptation period of 7 days. At the end of the trial, rumen fluid samples were collected for measuring ruminal pH values, short-chain fatty acids, endotoxin (or lipopolysaccharide, LPS) and bacterial microbiota. Plasma samples were collected at the end of the trial to determine the concentrations of plasma LPS, proinflammatory cytokines and acute phase proteins (APPs). The results showed that compared with the LCD, feeding the HCD had better growth performance due to a shift in the ruminal fermentation pattern from acetate towards propionate, butyrate and valerate. However, the HCD decreased ruminal pH and increased ruminal LPS release and the concentrations of plasma proinflammatory cytokines and APPs. Furthermore, feeding the HCD reduced bacterial richness and diversity in the rumen. Treatment of corn increased resistant starch (RS) content. Compared with the HCD, feeding the HCDT reduced ruminal LPS and improved ruminal bacterial microbiota, resulting in decreased inflammation and improved growth performance. In conclusion, although the HCD had better growth performance than the LCD, feeding the HCD promoted the pH reduction and the LPS release in the rumen, disturbed the ruminal bacterial stability and increased inflammatory response. Treatment of corn with HA in combination with subsequent SB neutralization increased the RS content and helped counter the negative effects of feeding HCD to beef steers.
Post-stroke depression (PSD) is the most common psychiatric complication facing stroke survivors and has been associated with increased distress, physical disability, poor rehabilitation, and suicidal ideation. However, the pathophysiological mechanisms underlying PSD remain unknown, and no objective laboratory-based test is available to aid PSD diagnosis or monitor progression.
Methods:
Here, an isobaric tags for relative and absolute quantitation (iTRAQ)-based quantitative proteomic approach was performed to identify differentially expressed proteins in plasma samples obtained from PSD, stroke, and healthy control subjects.
Results:
The significantly differentiated proteins were primarily involved in lipid metabolism and immunoregulation. Six proteins associated with these processes – apolipoprotein A-IV (ApoA-IV), apolipoprotein C-II (ApoC-II), C-reactive protein (CRP), gelsolin, haptoglobin, and leucine-rich alpha-2-glycoprotein (LRG) – were selected for Western blotting validation. ApoA-IV expression was significantly upregulated in PSD as compared to stroke subjects. ApoC-II, LRG, and CRP expression were significantly downregulated in both PSD and HC subjects relative to stroke subjects. Gelsolin and haptoglobin expression were significantly dysregulated across all three groups with the following expression profiles: gelsolin, healthy control > PSD > stroke subjects; haptoglobin, stroke > PSD > healthy control.
Conclusions:
Early perturbation of lipid metabolism and immunoregulation may be involved in the pathophysiology of PSD. The combination of increased gelsolin levels accompanied by decreased haptoglobin levels shows promise as a plasma-based diagnostic biomarker panel for detecting increased PSD risk in post-stroke patients.

Its cell morphology, physiology and biochemical functions similar to normal nerve cells, are widely used to study the mechanism of diseases and drug, of the nervous system.
Objective
To investigate the effect of Saikosaponin B on SH-SY5Y cells.
Methods
Cultured SH-SY5Y cells and drawed cell growth curve. Then based on the cell growth curve, using hydrogen peroxide of different doses(110?120?130?140?150?160?180?200?220μmol/L) to treated SH-SY5Y cells. At same time, volume fraction 0.05 serum contained Saikosaponin B was added. Cultured SH-SY5Y cells were observed by morphology and tested by the MTT assay.
Results
Less than 140μmol/L hydrogen peroxide, SH-SY5Y cells does not be caused damage. Saikosaponin B of volume fraction 0.05 can relieve the damage of SH-SY5Y cells treated with 140μmol/L hydrogen peroxide, also can increase the survival of the SH-SY5Y cells.
Conclusion
Saikosaponin B can strongly protect the cultured SH-SY5Y cells from damage induced by hydrogen peroxide.
Flax seed meal (FSM) is rich in various nutrients, especially CP and energy, and can be used as animal protein feed. In animal husbandry production, it is a long-term goal to replace soybean meal (SBM) in animal feed with other plant protein feed. However, studies on the effects of replacing SBM with FSM in fattening sheep are limited. The aim of this experiment was to study the effects of replacing a portion of SBM with FSM on nutrient digestibility, rumen microbial protein synthesis and growth performance in sheep. Thirty-six Dorper × Small Thin-Tailed crossbred rams (BW = 40.4 ± 1.73 kg, mean ± SD) were randomly assigned into four groups. The dietary treatments (forage/concentrate, 45 : 55) were isocaloric according to the nutrient requirements of rams. Soybean meal was replaced with FSM at different levels (DM basis): (1) 18% SBM (18SBM), (2) 12% SBM and 6% FSM (6FSM), (3) 6% SBM and 12% FSM (12FSM) and (4) 18% FSM (18FSM). The rams were fed in individual pens for 60 days, with the first 10 days for adaptation to diets, and then the digestibility of nutrients was determined. There was no significant difference in DM intake, but quadratic (P < 0.001) effects on the average daily gain and feed efficiency were detected, with the highest values in the 6FSM and 12FSM groups. For DM and NDF digestibility, quadratic effects were observed with the higher values in the 6FSM and 12FSM groups, but the digestibility of CP linearly decreased with the increase in FSM in the diet (P = 0.043). There was a quadratic (P < 0.001) effect of FSM inclusion rate on the estimated microbial CP yield. However, the values of intestinally absorbable dietary protein decreased linearly (P < 0.001). For the supply of metabolisable protein, both the linear (P = 0.001) and quadratic (P = 0.044) effects were observed with the lowest value in the 18FSM group. Overall, the results indicated that SBM can be effectively replaced by FSM in the diets of fattening sheep and the optimal proportion was 12.0% under the conditions of this experiment.
Enhancing the supply of arginine (Arg), a semi-essential amino acid, has positive effects on immune function in dairy cattle experiencing metabolic stress during early lactation. Our objective was to determine the effects of Arg supplementation on biomarkers of liver damage and inflammation in cows during early lactation. Six Chinese Holstein lactating cows with similar BW (508 ± 14 kg), body condition score (3.0), parity (4.0 ± 0), milk yield (30.6 ± 1.8 kg) and days in milk (20 ± days) were randomly assigned to three treatments in a replicated 3 × 3 Latin square design balanced for carryover effects. Each period was 21 days with 7 days for infusion and 14 days for washout. Treatments were (1) Control: saline; (2) Arg group: saline + 0.216 mol/day l-Arg; and (3) Alanine (Ala) group: saline + 0.868 mol/day l-Ala (iso-nitrogenous to the Arg group). Blood and milk samples from the experimental cows were collected on the last day of each infusion period and analyzed for indices of liver damage and inflammation, and the count and composition of somatic cells in milk. Compared with the Control, the infusion of Arg led to greater concentrations of total protein, immunoglobulin M and high density lipoprotein cholesterol coupled with lower concentrations of haptoglobin and tumor necrosis factor-α, and activity of aspartate aminotransferase in serum. Infusion of Ala had no effect on those biomarkers compared with the Control. Although milk somatic cell count was not affected, the concentration of granulocytes was lower in response to Arg infusion compared with the Control or Ala group. Overall, the biomarker analyses indicated that the supplementation of Arg via the jugular vein during early lactation alleviated inflammation and metabolic stress.
Origami, the ancient paper folding art has inspired the engineering equipment and design for decades. The basic concept of origami is very general, which leads to applications ranging from small scale to large scale. Recently, researchers are interested in being able to create self-folding structures. Such a structure enables kinematic manipulation by external forces or moments without folding and/or unfolding operations. This is a beneficial application for many fields including aerospace systems, robots, small devices and self-assembly systems. In this paper, the investigation and analyses of the previous literatures on the key driving force of the actuation structure, including the heat, light, electricity, gas and other actuation methods. The aims are to provide researchers and practitioners with the support to systematically understand the latest technologies in this important and evolving field, with inspiration and direction for follow-up.
The seasonality of individual influenza subtypes/lineages and the association of influenza epidemics with meteorological factors in the tropics/subtropics have not been well understood. The impact of the 2009 H1N1 pandemic on the prevalence of seasonal influenza virus remains to be explored. Using wavelet analysis, the periodicities of A/H3N2, seasonal A/H1N1, A/H1N1pdm09, Victoria and Yamagata were identified, respectively, in Panzhihua during 2006–2015. As a subtropical city in southwestern China, Panzhihua is the first industrial city in the upper reaches of the Yangtze River. The relationship between influenza epidemics and local climatic variables was examined based on regression models. The temporal distribution of influenza subtypes/lineages during the pre-pandemic (2006–2009), pandemic (2009) and post-pandemic (2010–2015) years was described and compared. A total of 6892 respiratory specimens were collected and 737 influenza viruses were isolated. A/H3N2 showed an annual cycle with a peak in summer–autumn, while A/H1N1pdm09, Victoria and Yamagata exhibited an annual cycle with a peak in winter–spring. Regression analyses demonstrated that relative humidity was positively associated with A/H3N2 activity while negatively associated with Victoria activity. Higher prevalence of A/H1N1pdm09 and Yamagata was driven by lower absolute humidity. The role of weather conditions in regulating influenza epidemics could be complicated since the diverse viral transmission modes and mechanism. Differences in seasonality and different associations with meteorological factors by influenza subtypes/lineages should be considered in epidemiological studies in the tropics/subtropics. The development of subtype- and lineage-specific prevention and control measures is of significant importance.
Eudialyte-group minerals (EGM) represent the most important index minerals of persodic agpaitic systems. Results are presented here of a combined EPMA, Mössbauer spectroscopy and LA-ICP-MS study and EGM which crystallized in various fractionation stages from different parental melts and mineral assemblages in silica over- and undersaturated systems are compared. Compositional variability is closely related to texture, allowing for reconstruction of locally acting magmatic to hydrothermal processes. Early-magmatic EGM are invariably dominated by Fe whereas hydrothermal EGM can be virtually Fe-free and form pure Mn end-members. Hence the Mn/Fe ratio is the most suitable fractionation indicator, although crystal chemistry effects and co-crystallizing phases play a secondary role in the incorporation of Fe and Mn into EGM. Mössbauer spectroscopy of EGM from three selected occurrences indicates the Fe3+/ΣFe ratio to be governed by the hydration state of EGM rather than by the oxygen fugacity of the coexisting melt. Negative Eu anomalies are restricted to EGM that crystallized from alkali basaltic parental melts while EGM from nephelinitic parental melts invariably lack negative Eu anomalies. Even after extensive differentiation intervals, EGM reflect properties of their respective parental melts and the fractionation of plagioclase and other minerals such as Fe-Ti oxides, amphibole and sulphides.
The study objective was to determine the prevalence of Staphylococcus aureus colonisation in the nares and oropharynx of healthy persons and identify any risk factors associated with such S. aureus colonisation. In total 263 participants (177 adults and 86 minors) comprising 95 families were enrolled in a year-long prospective cohort study from one urban and one rural county in eastern Iowa, USA, through local newspaper advertisements and email lists and through the Keokuk Rural Health Study. Potential risk factors including demographic factors, medical history, farming and healthcare exposure were assessed. Among the participants, 25.4% of adults and 36.1% minors carried S. aureus in their nares and 37.9% of adults carried it in their oropharynx. The overall prevalence was 44.1% among adults and 36.1% for minors. Having at least one positive environmental site for S. aureus in the family home was associated with colonisation (prevalence ratio: 1.34, 95% CI: 1.07–1.66). The sensitivity of the oropharyngeal cultures was greater than that of the nares cultures (86.1% compared with 58.2%, respectively). In conclusion, the nares and oropharynx are both important colonisation sites for healthy community members and the presence of S. aureus in the home environment is associated with an increased probability of colonisation.
