Postel Nunatak in the Patuxent Range has been previously mapped as Nelson Limestone but there was no biostratigraphic support for that interpretation until now. We confirm that limestone exposures at Postel Nunatak are at least partly correlated with the Nelson Limestone of the Neptune Range, 160 km north-east, and are not correlative with the lower Cambrian Schneider Hills Limestone of the Argentina Range. Upper beds have yielded the trilobites Suludella? davnii Palmer & Gatehouse, 1972 and Solenopleura pruina Palmer & Gatehouse, 1972, which provide a basis for assignment to Cambrian Series 3 (late middle Cambrian), within the Drumian or lower Guzhangian stages. Limestone beds were deposited in a shallow marine setting, ranging from supratidal to lagoonal facies with rare subtidal intervals. These settings contrast with deeper water facies of the Neptune Range. Despite limitations in sampling density, isotopic analysis indicates that a greater than +2.5‰ shift in δ13C is consistent with δ13C trends documented for the Drumian Stage. Because the upper and lower contacts at Postel Nunatak are covered by snow and ice, the relationship with rocks mapped as the Patuxent Formation in the Patuxent Range remains uncertain, but part of it may belong to the Precambrian Hannah Ridge Formation.

Alternative methods are needed to control weeds in no-till corn and soybean which minimize herbicide contamination of surface or ground water. The objective of this research was to determine whether between-row (BR) mowing + band-applied herbicide could help reduce herbicide use, without sacrificing summer annual weed control or yield, in no-till soybean and field corn. Glyphosate was applied shortly before or at planting to control emerged winter annual weeds in all treatments. In the BR mowing weed management system, the band-applied soil residual herbicides imazaquin + alachlor in soybean or atrazine + alachlor in corn were applied shortly before or after planting followed by two or more between-row mowings to control summer annual weeds. Annual weeds were first mowed when they were about 8 cm tall and again just before crop canopy closure. Between-row mowing weeds very close to the soil surface two or three times killed or suppressed summer annual grass and broadleaf weeds, chiefly giant foxtail, common cocklebur, and horseweed, when timed properly. The BR mowing weed management system increased yield above a weedy check in these no-till crops. It also controlled weeds and yielded as well as or better than broadcast-applied herbicide at the same rates. Use of soil residual herbicides to control summer annual weeds was reduced 50% by banding because only 50% of the field area was sprayed.

Lymphocytic adenohypophysitis (LAH) is an uncommon disorder in the spectrum of pituitary disease. Twenty-three cases proven by biopsy or at autopsy have been reported since 1962. We report 2 further cases and review the etiology, immunology and pathology of the disease. The diagnosis should be considered in afemale patient who presents during the post-partum period with the clinical picture of a non-functional or prolactin cell pituitary adenoma and evidence of hypopituitarism.

Background: This study examined mortality due to multiple sclerosis (MS) in Canada, 1975-2009 to determine whether there has been a change in age at death relative to the general population and decrease in MS mortality rates. Methods: Mortality rates/100,000 population for MS and all causes were calculated using data derived from Statistics Canada, age-standardized to the 2006 population. Results: The average annual Canadian MS mortality rate, 1975-2009 was 1.23/100,000. Five-year rates for 1975-79, 1980-84, 1985-89, 1990-94, 1995-99, 2000-04, 2005-09 were: 1.16, 0.94, 1.01, 1.16, 1.30, 1.43, 1.33. Trend analysis showed mortality rates over the entire 35 years were stable (average annual percent change of less than one percent). The average annual 1975-2009 rates for females and males were 1.45 and 0.99. Five-year female rates were always higher than males. Regardless of gender, there was a decrease in MS mortality rates in the 0-39 age group and increases in the 60-69, 70-79, and 80+ groups over time. In contrast, there were decreases in all-cause mortality rates across each age group. The highest MS mortality rates for 1975-2009 were consistently in the 50-59 and 60-69 groups for both genders, while the highest all-cause mortality rates were in the 80+ group. Conclusions: Changes in the age distribution of MS mortality rates indicate a shift to later age at death, possibly due to improved health care. However MS patients remain disadvantaged relative to the general population and changes in age at death are not reflected in decreased mortality rates.

Two questions commonly raised by cow-calf producers are, “What type of beef animal is most profitable?” and “Can profits be increased by maintaining ownership of calves through the stocker and feeding stages?”
These two questions are highly interrelated as performance in cow-calf stage carries over into the Dostweanine staees.

Background:
Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is reported to be uncommon among North American aboriginals despite frequent intermarriage with people of European ancestry, but few population-based studies have been conducted. The purpose of this study was to determine the prevalence of MS among First Nations aboriginal people in Alberta, Canada compared to the general population.
Methods:All hospital in-patient and physician fee-for-service records between 1994 and 2002 where a diagnosis of MS was mentioned were extracted from government health databases in the province of Alberta. First Nations people can be identified since the federal government (Health Canada) pays health care insurance premiums on their behalf. Multiple Sclerosis prevalence per 100,000 population for both First Nations people and the general population of Alberta were calculated for each year during this time span.
Results:Among First Nations in Alberta, MS prevalence was 56.3 per 100,000 in 1994 and 99.9 per 100,000 in 2002, an increase of 43.6%. In 2002 prevalence was 158.1 and 38.0 for females and males respectively, a female to male ratio of 4.2:1. Multiple Sclerosis prevalence among the general population of Alberta was 262.6 per 100,000 in 1994 and 335.0 per 100,000 in 2002, an increase of 21.6%. In 2002 prevalence was 481.5 and 187.5 for females and males respectively, a female to male ratio of 2.6:1. Peak prevalence for both First Nations and general population females in 2002 was age 50-59, also 50-59 for both First Nations and general population males.
Conclusion:While MS prevalence in First Nations people is lower than in the general population of Alberta, it is not rare by worldwide standards.

Objective
We sought to determine attitudes toward patients with borderline personality disorder (BPD) among mental health clinicians at nine academic centers in the United States.
MethodsA self-report questionnaire was distributed to 706 mental health clinicians, including psychiatrists, psychiatry residents, social workers, nurses, and psychologists.
ResultsThe study showed that most clinicians consider BPD a valid diagnosis, although nearly half reported that they preferred to avoid these patients. The clinician's occupational subgroup was significantly related to attitude. Staff nurses had the lowest self-ratings on overall caring attitudes, while social workers had the highest. Social workers and psychiatrists had the highest ratings on treatment optimism. Social workers and psychologists were most optimistic about psychotherapy effectiveness, while psychiatrists were most optimistic about medication effectiveness. Staff nurses had the lowest self-ratings on empathy toward patients with BPD and treatment optimism.
DiscussionNegative attitudes persist among clinicians toward BPD, but differ among occupational subgroups. Overall, caring attitudes, empathy, and treatment optimism were all higher among care providers who had cared for a greater number of BPD patients in the past 12 months.
ConclusionThese findings hold important implications for clinician education and coordination of care for patients with BPD.

Recent research has even further emphasized the physiological dangers to which man is exposed when breathing gases at increased tensions. If he breathes air his activity under water is greatly limited by the problems of supply and compressed air illness. The latter is due to the formation of bubbles of nitrogen in the body on return to normal atmosphere. If he breathes oxygen, then he is in grave danger of oxygen poisoning, with convulsions, even at relatively shallow depths (Donald, 1947). During the recent war, mixtures of nitrogen and oxygen were employed for important work where the diver wished to go to considerable depths while carrying his own gases. These mixtures were varied in composition and rate of supply so that oxygen poisoning was avoided, and immediate rapid surfacing was possible, without compressed air illness occurring. However, this ingenious compromise is limited in its application, for as greater depths are reached, the oxygen has to be greatly reduced to avoid convulsions. The resultant rise in the proportion of nitrogen being breathed causes bubble formation in any but the shortest exposures. It is to be doubted whether the maintenance and meticulous supervision required, when using mixtures, will allow the use of these in the more normal conditions of peace-time. It has become increasingly apparent that the prolonged underwater survival of men requires pressure-withstanding devices in which he can exist at normal physiological tensions, i.e. atmospheric pressure. The rigid diving suit and submersible chambers, such as the bathysphere, are in their infancy; but the submarine, where the same conditions apply, is now a highly successful and developed method of underwater existence and locomotion. The further evolution of these devices, and of the submarine, depends mainly on engineering advances and not upon attempting to extend the comparatively rigid limits imposed by human physiology. The maintenance of a healthy atmosphere within a submarine is again a chemical and engineering problem which is capable of solution and constant improvement.

The International Consortium for Evidence-Based Perfusion (www.bestpracticeperfusion.org) is a collaborative partnership of societies of perfusionists, professional medical societies, and interested clinicians, whose aim is to promote the continuous improvement of the delivery of care and outcomes for patients undergoing extracorporeal circulation. Despite the many advances made throughout the history of cardiopulmonary bypass, significant variation in practice and potential for complication remains. To help address this issue, the International Consortium for Evidence-Based Perfusion has joined the Multi-Societal Database Committee for Pediatric and Congenital Heart Disease to develop a list of complications in congenital cardiac surgery related to extracorporeal circulation conducted via cardiopulmonary bypass, extracorporeal membrane oxygenation, or mechanical circulatory support devices, which include ventricular assist devices and intra-aortic balloon pumps. Understanding and defining the complications that may occur related to extracorporeal circulation in congenital patients is requisite for assessing and subsequently improving the care provided to the patients we serve. The aim of this manuscript is to identify and define the myriad of complications directly related to the extracorporeal circulation of congenital patients.

Summary
Introduction
Fungi play a major role in environmental biotechnology. Their morphological, physiological and reproductive strategies make them especially suited for terrestrial habitats. This book is a testament to their multi-faceted role in the biodegradation of natural and xenobiotic compounds and to the major progress that has been made in our ability to use them as agents for the detoxification of hazardous wastes. Nevertheless, the fact remains that most of the successful applications have been performed in laboratory bench-top experiments. Field trials have been plagued by suboptimal results. Physical parameters such as aeration, moisture, nutrient level, pH, temperature and toxic contaminant level interact with living systems in unpredictable ways. Biological parameters such as predation and competition from the resident microbial populations also contribute to the variability of outcomes for in situ bioremediation. The challenge is to create remediation protocols that can be effective despite these numerous uncontrolled variables.
Two major biological strategies have been employed to increase the effectiveness of microbial bioremediation in field trials. The first is the stimulation of the indigenous population, usually through the delivery of a limiting nutrient. This practice is called biostimulation, and successful applications include use in marine oil spills and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH)-contaminated soils (Atlas & Bartha, 1992; Riser-Roberts, 1998). Nitrogen and phosphorus are the most commonly added nutrients (Liebeg & Cutright, 1999).
