In resource-limited countries, the lack of widespread screening masks the true situation of COVID-19. We conducted this study to assess SARS-CoV-2 spread by detection of specific antibodies and to determine associated factors. A population-based cross-sectional study was conducted. Subjects were tested for the presence of two antibodies (IgM and IgG) specific to SARS-CoV-2. Data collection was done using a smartphone with the KoboCollect application. Prevalence of antibodies was estimated with 95% confidence intervals. Logistic regression was used to determine factors associated with positive serological test. A total of 9,094 persons were tested in 4,340 households. The mean age was 30.18 ± 18.65 years, 46.5% male. The overall seroprevalence (prevalence, 95% CI) of SARS-CoV-2 antibodies was (48.2% [47.2%–49.2%]). Being vaccinated, having been in contact with a COVID-19 patient, being older than 50 years, living in a union, having secondary education and having tertiary education were factors independently associated with the likelihood of having anti-sars-CoV-2. We estimate in February 2022 that 48% persons had antibodies against the COVID-19 virus, more among those vaccinated. Vaccination intensification in low prevalence departments will reduce the risk of new outbreaks.

The site of L’anse de la République, Talmont-Saint-Hilaire, Vendée, France, belonging to the Beaker culture, was discovered by Roger Joussaume in the 1960s. It was subsequently investigated during the late 1980s and more recently in 2014. Several items excavated during these operations are clearly linked to metallurgy. This article assesses the results of new analyses (XRF, petrographic analysis, metallographic microscope observation, SEM and EDS microprobe analysis) undertaken on the different artefacts (copper residue, slags, smelting-crucible sherds), which allow the authors to assert that copper ore was smelted on the site. Radiocarbon dating of organic residue preserved on a ceramic sherd confirms the dating of the site to the earliest phase of the Beaker culture (2500 bc). The metallic copper produced here is characterised by two main impurities: arsenic and nickel. This provides an opportunity to review the extremely rare vestiges of Beaker metallurgy in France, which contrast with the numerous metal objects recovered. This article also considers the use of domestic smelting vessels for smelting ore; this technique may have been more widespread than previously thought in the Beaker culture on the Atlantic coast of Europe.
Preference of medicine and patient-reported quality of life in community-treated schizophrenic patients receiving aripiprazole vs standard of care: Results from the STAR study

Objective
To evaluate quality of life and patient preference for schizophrenia treatment in a community based study comparing the use of aripiprazole to the standard of care (SOC).
MethodThis open-label, 26-week, multi-centre, randomised study compared aripiprazole with SOC (olanzapine, quetiapine or risperidone) in patients with schizophrenia (DSM-IV-TR criteria). The primary effectiveness variable was the mean total score of the Investigator Assessment Questionnaire (IAQ) at Week 26. The outcome research variables included the Preference of Medicine (POM) questionnaire, the Quality of Life Scale (QLS), and the EuroQoL-5D (EQ-5D). The results from these outcome research variables are the focus of this paper addressing quality of life and patient preference.
ResultsA total of 555 patients were randomised to receive aripiprazole (n = 284) or SOC (n = 271). The OC data at Week 26, reported that more respondents rated the study medication as ‘much better’ compared with their previous medication in the aripiprazole group versus SOC for patients (59% vs 35%, P < 0.001) and caregivers (58% vs 30%, P = 0.014). The improvement in QLS total score was also significantly greater in the aripiprazole group compared with SOC – mean change from baseline in QLS total score of 16.21 vs 10.01 (P < 0.001) at Week 26 (OC data set). A greater proportion of patients (93% vs 85%; P = 0.005) in the aripiprazole group had a satisfactory response on the EQ-5D Self Care Scale; all other EQ-5D scores were similar.
ConclusionThe study findings suggest that quality of life and patient medication preference measures were better for aripiprazole than for SOC.

We analyze photoluminescence (PL) and electroluminescence (EL) using a hyperspectral imager that records spectrally resolved luminescence images of solar cell absorbers. The system is calibrated to yield the luminescence flux in absolute values. This system enables to quantitatively image physical parameters such as the photovoltage with an uncertainty of less than 30mV. The wide field illumination, low power excitation and fast acquisition brings new insights compare to classical setups such as confocal microscope. Several types of absorbers have been analyzed. For instance, we can investigate spatial fluctuations of the Quasi Fermi Levels splitting in CIGS polycristalline absorbers and link those fluctuations to transport properties. The method is general to the point that third generation PV cells absorbers can also be evaluated. We illustrate the great potential of our setup by imaging quasi Fermi levels splitting in Intermediate Band Solar cells. Such techniques, directly evaluating the performance of photovoltaic absorbers and devices are needed for fast, high throughput investigations of combinatorial experiments such as the projects carried out for the material genomics programme.

Evidence has grown supporting the role for short sleep duration as an independent risk factor for weight gain and obesity. The purpose of the present study was to examine the relationship between sleep duration and dietary quality in European adolescents. The sample consisted of 1522 adolescents (aged 12·5–17·5 years) participating in the European multi-centre cross-sectional ‘Healthy Lifestyle in Europe by Nutrition in Adolescence’ study. Sleep duration was estimated by a self-reported questionnaire. Dietary intake was assessed by two 24 h recalls. The Diet Quality Index for Adolescents with Meal index (DQI-AM) was used to calculate overall dietary quality, considering the components dietary equilibrium, dietary diversity, dietary quality and a meal index. An average sleep duration of ≥ 9 h was classified as optimal, between 8 and 9 h as borderline insufficient and < 8 h as insufficient. Sleep duration and the DQI-AM score were positively associated (β = 0·027, r 0·130, P< 0·001). Adolescents with insufficient (62·05 (sd 14·18)) and borderline insufficient sleep (64·25 (sd 12·87)) scored lower on the DQI-AM than adolescents with an optimal sleep duration (64·57 (sd 12·39)) (P< 0·001; P= 0·018). The present study demonstrated in European adolescents that short sleep duration was associated with a lower dietary quality. This supports the hypothesis that the health consequences of insufficient sleep may be mediated by the relationship of insufficient sleep to poor dietary quality.

Recently, a Haley–Knott-type regression method using combined linkage disequilibrium and linkage analyses (LDLA) was proposed to map quantitative trait loci (QTLs). Chromosome of 5 and 25 cM with 0·25 and 0·05 cM, respectively, between markers were simulated. The differences between the LDLA approaches with regard to QTL position accuracy were very limited, with a significantly better mean square error (MSE) with the LDLA regression (LDLA_reg) in sparse map cases; the contrary was observed, but not significantly, in dense map situations. The computing time required for the LDLA variance components (LDLA_vc) model was much higher than the LDLA_reg model. The precision of QTL position estimation was compared for four numbers of half-sib families, four different family sizes and two experimental designs (half-sibs, and full- and half-sibs). Regarding the number of families, MSE values were lowest for 15 or 50 half-sib families, differences not being significant. We observed that the greater the number of progenies per sire, the more accurate the QTL position. However, for a fixed population size, reducing the number of families (e.g. using a small number of large full-sib families) could lead to less accuracy of estimated QTL position.

Objective
Since inadequate food consumption patterns during adolescence are not only linked with the occurrence of obesity in youth but also with the subsequent risk of developing diseases in adulthood, the establishment and maintenance of a healthy diet early in life is of great public health importance. Therefore, the aim of the present study was to describe and evaluate the food consumption of a well-characterized sample of European adolescents against food-based dietary guidelines for the first time.
DesignThe HELENA (Healthy Lifestyle in Europe by Nutrition in Adolescence) Study is a cross-sectional study, whose main objective was to obtain comparable data on a variety of nutritional and health-related parameters in adolescents aged 12·5–17·5 years.
SettingTen cities in Europe.
SubjectsThe initial sample consisted of more than 3000 European adolescents. Among these, 1593 adolescents (54 % female) had sufficient and plausible dietary data on energy and food intakes from two 24 h recalls using the HELENA-DIAT software.
ResultsFood intake of adolescents in Europe is not optimal compared with the two food-based dietary guidelines, Optimized Mixed Diet and Food Guide Pyramid, examined in this study. Adolescents eat half of the recommended amount of fruit and vegetables and less than two-thirds of the recommended amount of milk (and milk products), but consume much more meat (and meat products), fats and sweets than recommended. However, median total energy intake may be estimated to be nearly in line with the recommendations.
ConclusionThe results urge the need to improve the dietary habits of adolescents in order to maintain health in later life.
Is total serum protein a good indicator for welfare in reared sea bass (Dicentrarchus labrax)?

Reared sea bass were submitted to six stressful situations: hyperoxia with or without hypercapnia, increased stocking density in an open flow or recirculating system, transfer to another tank and nodavirus injection. The potentially negative impact of these factors on the lives of sea bass was investigated by measuring 9 water parameters and 19 fish parameters including total serum protein (TSP). TSP has already been used to evaluate stress. The present study investigates data of previous and new experiments, concentrating on the potential use of TSP as a routine indicator to assess welfare in sea bass reared on fish farms. In the current experiment, oxygen and carbon dioxide were seen to affect levels of TSP, but alterations were too erratic to enable proper comparison, probably because they are normal components of the fish environment and become toxic only by dose increase. TSP decreased when stocking density increased. After transfer to another tank, TSP decreased to 14% for three weeks and then increased during the fourth week through compensative overproduction, before returning to normal levels after 2 months. The results confirmed that transfer is an important stress factor for fish, with cumulative effects for successive transfers. TSP alteration of nodavirus-injected fish depends on the type of symptoms, which can be divided into 3 groups: (i) dying fish, in which TSP increased sharply due to over-production of protein involved in non-specific defences and inflammation, then decreased dramatically before death; (ii) whirling fish, a group that included both fish that later died, in which TSP decreased, and fish that subsequently survived, in which TSP increased due to development of specific immunity; and (iii) asymptomatic fish, in which TPS was similar to control levels and which were probably insensitive to nodavirus and/or had developed defences. In this paper, different mechanisms of TSP alteration are proposed and the interest of TSP as a field parameter is discussed. TSP is a non-destructive parameter that is robust, easy to measure everywhere and cheap, representing a suitable way of monitoring the overall welfare of fish by its regular increase. It can be used only as a “warning” of poor rearing conditions, however, and further investigations would be needed to identify the specific stress or health disorder.
Milk supplementation facilitates appetite control in obese women during weight loss: a randomised, single-blind, placebo-controlled trial

Dairy products provide Ca and protein which may facilitate appetite control. Conversely, weight loss is known to increase the motivation to eat. This randomised controlled trial verified the influence of milk supplementation on appetite markers during weight loss. Low Ca consumer women participated in a 6-month energy-restricted programme ( − 2508 kJ/d or − 600 kcal/d) and received either a milk supplementation (1000 mg Ca/d) or an isoenergetic placebo (n 13 and 12, respectively). Fasting appetite sensations were assessed by visual analogue scales. Anthropometric parameters and fasting plasma concentrations of glucose, insulin, leptin, ghrelin and cortisol were measured as well. Both groups showed a significant weight loss (P < 0·0001). In the milk-supplemented group, a time × treatment interaction effect showed that weight loss with milk supplementation induced a smaller increase in desire to eat and hunger (P < 0·05). Unlike the placebo group, the milk-supplemented group showed a lower than predicted decrease in fullness ( − 17·1 v. − 8·8; − 12·7 v. 3·3 mm, P < 0·05, measured v. predicted values, respectively). Even after adjustment for fat mass loss, changes in ghrelin concentration predicted those in desire to eat (r 0·56, P < 0·01), hunger (r 0·45, P < 0·05) and fullness (r − 0·40, P < 0·05). However, the study did not show a between-group difference in the change in ghrelin concentration in response to the intervention. These results show that milk supplementation attenuates the orexigenic effect of body weight loss. Trial registration code: ClinicalTrials.gov NTC00729170.

During 84 days, the effects of density on juvenile sea bass (Dicentrarchus labrax) (76±16 g) were studied in an experimental tank-based flow through system. Performance, stress response and resistance to virus infection were analysed under five stabilized rearing densities: 10, 20, 40, 70 and 100 kg m-3. Water quality parameters (CO2, total ammonia nitrogen and O2) were measured and maintained close to the recommended values for farmed sea bass by adjusting water renewal exchange. No significant differences were observed between density treatments, neither on stress response (cortisol) nor susceptibility to nodavirus. With regards to biological performances, the daily feed intake and specific growth rate were significantly lower in fish reared at the 100 kg m-3 density. Results on the effects of density in sea bass reared in flow through (present study) and in recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS) (Sammouth et al. 2009) were compared as a contribution to the identification of density not affecting health and welfare in farmed sea bass.

It is A well-established fact that families vary quite widely in their educational practices. In the past twenty years a certain number of studies on socialization have revealed a clear relation between the socioeconomic status of the parents and their educational style. Kohn (1977), for example, has shown that the emphasis parents put on discipline and immediate conformity is more pronounced in lower-class groups, whereas middle class groups value more the internalization of instructions and the development of personal motivations. In the same vein, psychologists and social psychologists have observed that the ‘authoritarian’ style of parent-child relationship (consisting of strong control and weak support) prevails more often in lower-class groups than in middle class groups, the latter being more prone to exercise strong support combined with marked control in their child's education (Bronfenbrenner 1958). Family sociologists have produced quite exhaustive articles covering the literature in this field (Gecas 1979; Peterson and Rollins 1987).

Antecedentes.
Los ensayos naturalistas sobre la efectividad de los antipsicóticos atípicos son necesarios para aportar una información más amplia sobre la eficacia, la seguridad y la tolerabilidad en pacientes con esquizofrenia tratados en un centro médico de la comunidad.
Métodos.En este estudio multicéntrico abierto de 26 semanas, diversos pacientes con esquizofrenia, que necesitaron un cambio en la medicación antipsicótica porque no toleraban bien la medicación actual y/o porque los síntomas clínicos no estaban bien controlados, se aleatorizaron para recibir aripiprazol o un tratamiento estándar (TE) con un antipsicótico atípico (por ejemplo, olanzapina, quetiapina o risperidona en función del juicio del investigador sobre el tratamiento óptimo de cada paciente individual y la respuesta previa del paciente a la medicación antipsicótica). El objetivo principal fue comparar la efectividad de un tratamiento de 26 semanas con aripiprazol con el TE, medido por la puntuación total del Cuestionario de Evaluación del Investigador (IAQ) en la última observación arrastrada (UOA) de la semana 26 (variable primaria), una medida validada que controla el alivio o el empeoramiento de 10 síntomas clave asociados con la psicopatología de la esquizofrenia y los efectos secundarios del tratamiento antipsicótico. Los objetivos secundarios fueron evaluar la efectividad usando las escalas Impresión Clínica Global - Mejoría Global (CGI-I) e Impresión Clínica Global - Gravedad de la Enfermedad, para evaluar el tiempo transcurrido hasta la suspensión del tratamiento, la preferencia del paciente respecto a la medicación, y la calidad de vida y la tolerabilidad de aripiprazol comparado con el TE.
Resultados.El tratamiento con aripiprazol (n=268) fue significativamente más eficaz que el TE (n = 254; P < 0,001; UOA de la semana 26), evidenciado por la puntuación IAQ total, desde la semana 4 (primera fase de evaluación) y se mantuvo hasta la semana 26. Una relación similar se demostró en los pacientes que terminaron el estudio (análisis de casos observados); aripiprazol se asoció con una efectividad significativamente mayor en todas las fases de evaluación con un mayor efecto diferencial de TE con el tiempo. Los pacientes tratados con aripiprazol también tuvieron mejorías significativamente mayores en la escala CGI-I (tasa de rspuesta, P = 0,009 en la UOA de la semana 26), y en la calidad de vida (puntuación total en la escala de Calidad de Vida; P < 0,001 en la semana 26). Además, una proporción significativamente mayor de pacientes que recibieron aripiprazol calificaron la medicación del estudio como “mucho mejor” en la escala del Cuestionario de Preferencias de Medicación (POM) que la medicación anterior al estudio comparados con los pacientes tratados con TE (P < 0,001; semana 26). El tiempo hasta la suspensión del tratamiento y las tasas de suspensión debidas a episodios adversos fueron similares en los dos grupos de tratamiento. La incidencia de pacientes con uno o varios síntomas extrapiramidales (por ejemplo, acatisia, distonía, episodios parkinsonianos y episodios residuales) fue mayor en los pacientes que recibieron aripiprazol comparados con los pacientes tratados con TE (13,5% frente a 5,6%); sin embargo, una proporción mayor de pacientes del grupo TE tuvo un aumento de peso clínicamente significativo (21,2% frente a 7,3% para aripiprazol) y de las concentraciones séricas (potencialmente importantes desde el punto de vista clínico) de colesterol total, colesterol de lipoproteínas de baja densidad, triglicéridos y prolactina comparados con los pacientes que recibieron aripiprazol.
Conclusiones.Aripiprazol es un antipsicótico atípico eficaz para el tratamiento de la esquizofrenia, que ha demostrado más efectividad que los fármacos estándar usados en este estudio en pacientes que necesitaban un cambio en la medicación antipsicótica.
Risk of Clostridium difficile-Associated Disease Among Patients Receiving Proton-Pump Inhibitors in a Quebec Medical Intensive Care Unit

Our study was conducted to determine whether use of gastric acid-suppressive agents increased the risk of Clostridium difficile-associated disease (CDAD) in a medical intensive care unit of one of the first hospitals to be threatened by the current CDAD epidemic in Quebec, Canada. Our findings suggest that efforts to determine risk factors for CDAD should focus on other areas, such as older age and antibiotic use.

A multivariate QTL detection was carried out on fatness and carcass composition traits on porcine chromosome 7 (SSC7). Single-trait QTLs have already been detected in the SLA region, and multivariate approaches have been used to exploit the correlations between the traits to obtain more information on their pattern: almost 500 measurements were recorded for backfat thickness (BFT1, BFT2), backfat weight (BFW) and leaf fat weight (LFW) but only about half that number for intramuscular fat content (IMF), affecting the detection. First, groups of traits were selected using a backward selection procedure: traits were selected based on their contribution to the linear combination of traits discriminating the putative QTL haplotypes. Three groups of traits could be distinguished based on successive discriminant analyses: external fat (BFT1, BFT2), internal fat (LFW, IMF) and BFW. At least four regions were distinguished, preferentially affecting one or the other group, with the SLA region always influencing all the traits. Meishan alleles decreased all trait values except IMF, confirming an opportunity for marker-assisted selection to improve meat quality with maintenance of carcass composition based on Meishan alleles.

Naturalistic effectiveness trials of atypical antipsychotics are needed to provide broader information on efficacy, safety, and tolerability in patients with schizophrenia treated in a community practice setting.
Methodin this 26-week, open-label, multicentre study, patients with schizophrenia requiring a switch in antipsychotic medication because current medication was not well tolerated and/or clinical symptoms were not well controlled were randomized to receive aripiprazole or an atypical antipsychotic standard of care (SOC) treatment (i.e., olanzapine, quetiapine, or risperidone based on the investigator's judgment of the optimal treatment for the individual patient and the patient's prior response to antipsychotic medication). The primary objective was to compare the effectiveness of a 26-week treatment of aripiprazole versus SOC, as measured by the investigator Assessment Questionnaire (IAQ) total score at Week 26 last observation carried forward (LOCF) (primary endpoint), a validated measure that monitors relief or worsening of 10 key symptoms associated with the psychopathology of schizophrenia and side effects of antipsychotic treatment. Secondary objectives were to further assess effectiveness using the Clinical Global Impression – Global Improvement (CGI-I) and Clinical Global Impression – Severity of Illness scale, to assess time to treatment discontinuation, patient preference of medication, quality of life, and the tolerability of aripiprazole compared with SOC.
ResultsAripiprazole treatment (n = 268) resulted in significantly better effectiveness than SOC treatment (n = 254; P < 0.001; Week 26 LOCF) as evidenced by the IAQ total score beginning at Week 4 (the first assessment point) and sustained through Week 26. A similar relationship was demonstrated among patients who completed the study (observed cases analysis); aripiprazole was associated with significantly better effectiveness at all time points with a greater differential effect from SOC over time. Patients treated with aripiprazole also demonstrated significantly greater improvements on the CGI-I scale (responder rate, P = 0.009 at Week 26 LOCF), as well as on quality of life (Quality of Life scale total score; P < 0.001 at Week 26). Furthermore, a significantly higher proportion of patients receiving aripiprazole rated their study medication as “much better” on the Preference of Medication Questionnaire (POM) scale than their pre-study medication compared with SOC patients (P < 0.001; Week 26). Time to treatment discontinuation and rates of discontinuation due to adverse events were similar in both treatment groups. The incidence of patients with one or more extrapyramidal symptom (e.g., akathisia, dystonia, parkinsonian events, and residual events) was higher in patients receiving aripiprazole compared with patients treated with SOC (13.5% vs. 5.6%); however, a higher proportion of patients in the SOC-treated group had clinically significant weight gain (21.2% vs. 7.3% for aripiprazole) and potentially clinically relevant elevated fasting levels of total cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, triglycerides, and serum prolactin compared with patients receiving aripiprazole.
ConclusionsAripiprazole is an effective atypical antipsychotic for the treatment of schizophrenia, demonstrating better effectiveness than SOC agents used in this study in patients for whom a switch in antipsychotic medication was warranted.

Nutrigenomics is the study of how constituents of the diet interact with genes, and their products, to alter phenotype and, conversely, how genes and their products metabolise these constituents into nutrients, antinutrients, and bioactive compounds. Results from molecular and genetic epidemiological studies indicate that dietary unbalance can alter gene–nutrient interactions in ways that increase the risk of developing chronic disease. The interplay of human genetic variation and environmental factors will make identifying causative genes and nutrients a formidable, but not intractable, challenge. We provide specific recommendations for how to best meet this challenge and discuss the need for new methodologies and the use of comprehensive analyses of nutrient–genotype interactions involving large and diverse populations. The objective of the present paper is to stimulate discourse and collaboration among nutrigenomic researchers and stakeholders, a process that will lead to an increase in global health and wellness by reducing health disparities in developed and developing countries.

Cette étude porte sur la fissuration par fatigue des alliages TiAl élaborés par fonderie et par métallurgie des poudres (MdP). L'alliage issu de fonderie présente une microstructure essentiellement lamellaire, tandis que celui provenant de la MdP possède une microstructure majoritairement monophasée γ à grains équiaxes. Afin de mieux comprendre les mécanismes de propagation des fissures dans ces deux microstructures, le champ complet des déformations surfaciques a été mesuré en pointe de fissure au cours d'un essai de fissuration par fatigue. Pour cela, une méthode optico-numérique basée sur l'intercorrélation directe d'images numériques de mouchetis a été utilisée. Les résultats obtenus montrent que l'alliage TiAl à microstructure lamellaire présente une meilleure capacité d'accommodation des surdéformations en pointe de fissure. Ces résultats permettent d'expliquer la meilleure résistance à la fissuration de cet alliage.
