Let k be the field $\Bbb C$ or $\Bbb R$, let M be the space kn and let A be the algebra of polynomials over M. We know from Hochschild and co-workers that the Hochschild homology H·(A,A) is isomorphic to the de Rham differential forms over M: this means that the complexes (C·(A,A),b) and (Ω·(M), 0) are quasi-isomorphic. In this work, I produce a general explicit homotopy formula between those two complexes. This formula can be generalized when M is an open set in a complex manifold and A is the space of holomorphic functions over M. Then, by taking the dual maps, I find a new homotopy formula for the Hochschild cohomology of the algebra of smooth fonctions over M (when M is either a complex or a real manifold) different from the one given by De Wilde and Lecompte. I will finally show how this formula can be used to construct an homotopy for the cyclic homology.

We prove that the moduli space $\cal A$11lev of <$>(1,11)-polarized Abelian surfaces with level structure of canonical type is birational to Klein's cubic hypersurface in P4. Therefore, $\cal A$11lev is unirational but not rational, and there are no Γ11-cusp forms of weight 3. The same methods also provide an easy proof of the rationality of $\cal A$9lev.

Let D>0 be the fundamental discriminant of a real quadratic field, and h(D) its class number. In this paper, by refining Ono's idea, we show that for any prime p>3, [sharp ]{0<D<X|h(D)[nequiv ]0(mod p)}>>p√(X)/logX.

It is well known that every finite subgroup of GLd(Q[ell ]) is conjugate to a subgroup of GLd(Z[ell ]). However, this does not remain true if we replace general linear groups by symplectic groups. We say that G is a group of inertia type of G is a finite group which has a normal Sylow-p-subgroup with cyclic quotient. We show that if [ell ]>d+1, and G is a subgroup of Sp2d(Q[ell ]) of inertia type, then G is conjugate in GL2d(Q[ell ]) to a subgroup of Sp2d(Z[ell ]). We give examples which show that the bound is sharp. We apply these results to construct, for every odd prime [ell ], isogeny classes of Abelian varieties all of whose polarizations have degree divisible by [ell ]2. We prove similar results for Euler characteristic of invertible sheaves on Abelian varieties over fields of positive characteristic.

In this paper, we prove two versions of an arithmetic analogue of Bezout's theorem, subject to some technical restrictions. The basic formula proven is deg(V)h(X∩Y)=h(X)deg(Y)+h(Y)deg(X)+O(1), where X and Y are algebraic cycles varying in properly intersecting families on a regular subvariety VS⊂PSN. The theorem is inspired by the arithmetic Bezout inequality of Bost, Gillet, and Soulé, but improve upon it in two ways. First, we obtain an equality up to O(1) as the intersecting cycles vary in projective families. Second, we generalise this result to intersections of divisors on any regular projective arithmetic variety.

We study the moment map associated to the cotangent bundle of the space of representations of a quiver, determining when it is flat, and giving a stratification of its Marsden–Weinstein reductions. In order to do this we determine the possible dimension vectors of simple representations of deformed preprojective algebras. In an appendix we use deformed preprojective algebras to give a simple proof of much of Kac's Theorem on representations of quivers in characteristic zero.

We establish one direction of a conjecture by Lakshmibai and Sandhya which describes combinatorially the singular locus of a Schubert variety. We prove that the conjectured singular locus is contained in the singular locus.

We prove the genus zero part of the generalized Witten conjecture, relating moduli spaces of higher spin curves to Gelfand–Dickey hierarchies. That is, we show that intersection numbers on the moduli space of stable r-spin curves assemble into a generating function which yields a solution of the semiclassical limit of the KdVr equations. We formulate axioms for a cohomology class on this moduli space which allow one to construct a cohomological field theory of rank r−1 in all genera. In genus zero it produces a Frobenius manifold which is isomorphic to the Frobenius manifold structure on the base of the versal deformation of the singularity Ar−1. We prove analogs of the puncture, dilaton, and topological recursion relations by drawing an analogy with the construction of Gromov–Witten invariants and quantum cohomology.

In this paper we study the p-rank of Abelian prime-to-p covers of the generic r-pointed curve of genus g. There is an obvious bound on the p-rank of the cover. We show that it suffices to compute the p-rank of cyclic prime-to-p covers of the generic r-pointed curve of genus zero. In that situation, we show that, for large p, the p-rank of the cover is equal to the bound.

Let Γ be one of the N2-dimensional bicovariant first-order differential calculi on the quantum groups Oq(N) or Spq(N), where q is not a root of unity. We show that the second antisymmetrizer exterior algebra sΓ∧ is the quotient of the universal exterior algebra uΓ∧ by the principal ideal generated by θ∧θ. Here ∧ denotes the unique up to scalars bi-invariant 1-form. Moreover, θ∧θ is central in uΓ∧ and uΓ∧ is an inner differential calculus.

Let L/K be a finite Galois extension of number fields of group G. In [4] the second named author used complexes arising from étale cohomology of the constant sheaf $\mathbb Z$ to define a canonical element TΩ(L/K) of the relative algebraic K-group K0($\mathbb Z$[G],$\mathbb R$). It was shown that the Stark and Strong Stark Conjectures for L/K can be reinterpreted in terms of TΩ(L/K), and that the Equivariant Tamagawa Number Conjecture for the $\mathbb Q$[G]-equivariant motive h0(Spec L) is equivalent to the vanishing of TΩ(L/K). In this paper we give a natural description of TΩ(L/K) in terms of finite G-modules and also, when G is Abelian, in terms of (first) Fitting ideals. By combining this description with techniques of Iwasawa theory we prove that TΩ(L/$\mathbb Q$) vanishes for an interesting class of Abelian extensions L/$\mathbb Q$.

We introduce symmetrizing operators of the polynomial ring A[x] in the variable x over a ring A. When A is an algebra over a field k these operators are used to characterize the monic polynomials F(x) of degree n in A[x] such that A[otimes ]kk[x](x)/(F(x)) is a free A-module of rank n. We use the characterization to determine the Hilbert scheme parameterizing subschemes of length n of k[x](x).

One is concerned with Cremona-like transformations, i.e., rational maps from $ P$n to $ P$m that are birational onto the image Y ⊂ $ P$m and, moreover, the inverse map from Y to $ P$n lifts to $ P$m. We establish a handy criterion of birationality in terms of certain syzygies and ranks of appropriate matrices and, moreover, give an effective method to explicitly obtaining the inverse map. A handful of classes of Cremona and Cremona-like transformations follow as applications.

We formulate a generalization of Givental–Kim's quantum hyperplane principle. This is applied to compute the quantum cohomology of a Calabi–Yau 3-fold defined as the rank 4 locus of a general skew-symmetric 7×7 matrix with coefficients in P6. The computation verifies the mirror symmetry predictions of Rødland [25].

We prove that the multiplicity of an arbitrary dominant weight for an irreducible highest weight representation of the affine Kac–Moody algebra A(1)r is a polynomial in the rank r. In the process we show that the degree of this polynomial is less than or equal to the depth of the weight with respect to the highest weight. These results allow weight multiplicity information for small ranks to be transferred to arbitrary ranks.

Let S be a scheme, and let G be a finite, flat, commutative group scheme over S. In this paper we show that (subject to a mild technical assumption) every primitive class in Pic(G) is realisable. This gives an affirmative answer to a question of Waterhouse. We also discuss applications to locally free classgroups and to Selmer groups of Abelian varieties.
