Evaporation of multi-component liquid mixtures in confined geometries, such as capillaries, is crucial in applications such as microfluidics, two-phase cooling devices and inkjet printing. Predicting the behaviour of such systems becomes challenging because evaporation triggers complex spatio-temporal changes in the composition of the mixture. These changes in composition, in turn, affect evaporation. In the present work, we study the evaporation of aqueous glycerol solutions contained as a liquid column in a capillary tube. Experiments and direct numerical simulations show three evaporation regimes characterised by different temporal evolutions of the normalised mass transfer rate (or Sherwood number $Sh$), namely $Sh (\tilde{t} ) = 1$, $Sh \sim 1/\sqrt {\tilde{t} }$ and $Sh \sim \exp (-\tilde{t} )$, where $\tilde {t}$ is a normalised time. We present a simplistic analytical model that shows that the evaporation dynamics can be expressed by the classical relation $Sh = \exp ( \tilde{t} )\,\mathrm {erfc} ( \sqrt {\tilde{t} })$. For small and medium $\tilde{t}$, this expression results in the first and second of the three observed scaling regimes, respectively. This analytical model is formulated in the limit of pure diffusion and when the penetration depth $\delta (t)$ of the diffusion front is much smaller than the length $L(t)$ of the liquid column. When $\delta \approx L$, finite-length effects lead to $Sh \sim \exp (-\tilde{t} )$, i.e. the third regime. Finally, we extend our analytical model to incorporate the effect of advection and determine the conditions under which this effect is important. Our results provide fundamental insights into the physics of selective evaporation from a multi-component liquid column.

Objective:
Early detection of mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and dementia is crucial for initiation of treatment and access to appropriate care. While comprehensive neuropsychological assessment is often an intrinsic part of the diagnostic process, access to services may be limited and cannot be utilized effectively on a large scale. For these reasons, cognitive screening instruments are used as brief and cost-effective methods to identify individuals who require further evaluation. Novel technologies and automated software systems to screen for cognitive changes in older individuals are evolving as new avenues for early detection. The present study presents preliminary data on a new technology that uses automated linguistic analysis software to screen for MCI and dementia.
Participants and Methods:Data were collected from 148 Spanish-speaking individuals recruited in Spain (MAge=74.4, MEducation=12.93, 56.7% females) of whom 78 were diagnosed as cognitively normal [CN; Mmmse = 28.51 (1.39)], 49 as MCI [MMMSE = 25.65 (2.94)], and 21 as all-cause dementia [MMMSE = 22.52 (2.06)]. Participants were recorded performing various verbal tasks [Animal fluency, phonemic (F) fluency, Cookie Theft Description, and CERAD list learning task]. Recordings were processed via text-transcription and sound signal processing techniques to capture neuropsychological variables and audio characteristics. Features from each task were used in the development of an algorithm (for that task) to compute a score between 0 or 1 (healthy to more impairment), and a fifth algorithm was constructed using audio characteristics from all tasks. These five classifiers were combined algorithmically to provide the final algorithm. Receiver Operating Characteristic (ROC) analysis was conducted to determine sensitivity and specificity of predicted algorithm performance [CN vs. impaired (MCI or dementia)] against clinical diagnoses, and additional general linear modeling was used to test whether age, sex, education, and multilingualism significantly predicted logistically transformed weighted algorithm scores.
Results:Scores were transformed to logit scores, with significant differences in mean logit scores between all groups (p <.001). Logit-inverse transformation of mean logit scores (possible range 0 -1) resulted in values of 0.06 for CN, 0.90 for MCI, and 0.99 for all-cause dementia groups. ROC curve analyses revealed the algorithm obtained a total area under the curve of 0.92, with an overall accuracy of 86.8%, a sensitivity of 0.92, and specificity of 0.82. Age was identified as a significant predictor (beta = 0.22; p <0.01) of algorithm output, whereas years of education (beta = -0.04; p = 0.64), sex (beta = 0.38; p = 0.02, did not survive correction for type-1 error), and multilingualism (beta = -0.24; p = 0.22) were non-significant.
Conclusions:These findings provide initial support for the utility of an automated speech analysis algorithm to detect cognitive impairment quickly and efficiently in a Spanish-speaking population. Although sociodemographic variables were not included in the algorithm, age significantly predicted algorithm output, and should be further explored to determine if age-adjusted formulas would improve algorithm accuracy for younger versus older individuals. Additional research is needed to validate this novel methodology in other languages, as this may represent a promising cross-cultural screening method for MCI and dementia detection.
Anandamide and 2-arachidonoylglycerol baseline plasma concentrations and their clinical correlate in gambling disorder

Introduction
Different components of the endocannabinoid (eCB) system such as their most well-known endogenous ligands, anandamide (AEA) and 2-arachidonoylglycerol (2-AG), have been implicated in brain reward pathways. While shared neurobiological substrates have been described among addiction-related disorders, information regarding the role of this system in behavioral addictions such as gambling disorder (GD) is scarce.
AimsFasting plasma concentrations of AEA and 2-AG were analyzed in individuals with GD at baseline, compared with healthy control subjects (HC). Through structural equation modeling, we evaluated associations between endocannabinoids and GD severity, exploring the potentially mediating role of clinical and neuropsychological variables.
MethodsThe sample included 166 adult outpatients with GD (95.8% male, mean age 39 years old) and 41 HC. Peripheral blood samples were collected after overnight fasting to assess AEA and 2-AG concentrations (ng/ml). Clinical (i.e., general psychopathology, emotion regulation, impulsivity, personality) and neuropsychological variables were evaluated through a semi-structured clinical interview and psychometric assessments.
ResultsPlasma AEA concentrations were higher in patients with GD compared with HC (p = .002), without differences in 2-AG. AEA and 2-AG concentrations were related to GD severity, with novelty-seeking mediating relationships.
ConclusionsThis study points to differences in fasting plasma concentrations of endocannabinoids between individuals with GD and HC. In the clinical group, the pathway defined by the association between the concentrations of endocannabinoids and novelty-seeking predicted GD severity. Although exploratory, these results could contribute to the identification of potential endophenotypic features that help optimize personalized approaches to prevent and treat GD.

The recent achievement of fusion ignition with laser-driven technologies at the National Ignition Facility sets a historic accomplishment in fusion energy research. This accomplishment paves the way for using laser inertial fusion as a viable approach for future energy production. Europe has a unique opportunity to empower research in this field internationally, and the scientific community is eager to engage in this journey. We propose establishing a European programme on inertial-fusion energy with the mission to demonstrate laser-driven ignition in the direct-drive scheme and to develop pathway technologies for the commercial fusion reactor. The proposed roadmap is based on four complementary axes: (i) the physics of laser–plasma interaction and burning plasmas; (ii) high-energy high repetition rate laser technology; (iii) fusion reactor technology and materials; and (iv) reinforcement of the laser fusion community by international education and training programmes. We foresee collaboration with universities, research centres and industry and establishing joint activities with the private sector involved in laser fusion. This project aims to stimulate a broad range of high-profile industrial developments in laser, plasma and radiation technologies along with the expected high-level socio-economic impact.

Introduction
Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation is a non invasive brain stimulation technique used for several neuropsychiatric conditions. The treatment of Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia (ALL) involves many cytotoxic drugs that inhibit the rapid growth of cancer cells, but also damage healthy cells, resulting in a wide range of adverse effects (Śliwa-Tytko et al., 2022). Studies have shown that approximately 10-30% of paediatric ALL patients suffer from psychiatric disorders. Therefore, new therapeutic tools are needed, and repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) has demonstrated tolerability, effectiveness and safety in children (Allen et al., 2017).
ObjectivesWe discuss the first case of a 9-year-old girl diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia B in who underwent Continuous Theta-Burst Stimulation
MethodsCase Presentation. In this study, we describe a case of a 9-year-old girl diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia B in November 2016 who completed treatment in July 2019. Since April 2018 she presented symptoms of intracranial hypertension and encephalopathy with behavioural alterations, attention deficit secondary to toxicity. Psychotic outbreaks after toxicity from different treatments was also present. Since starting pericyazine (July 2022) there has been a slight improvement, but her symptoms continue to have a severe impact in her daily functioning. Baseline developmental profile assessed with the Battelle Inventory was significantly below the expected level in all developmental areas except for gross motor skills. Treatment. The TMS intervention consisted of the application on right DLPFC (F4), inhibitory cTBS protocol (5Hz bursts and 3 pulses of 50 Hz each). The protocol consisted in delivering 2 sessions per day for 15 days (separated by 55 minutes), 4 minutes per session (3600 pulses/session), 30 sessions in total. An intensity of 100% of resting motor threshold (C4). TMS was performed with the Magventure Magpro X100 MagOption equipment, Cool DB-80 double cone coil. The Child Behaviour Checklist (CBCL) for parents was used to assess intervention effects.
ResultsCBCL results reflect improvements in both internalising and externalising total scores after treatment. Specifically, the patient presents clinically significant decreases in several dimensions such as anxious/depressed symptoms, somatic complaints, and social problems. No adverse effects have been reported since the beginning of the intervention.
ConclusionsInternalising and externalising behaviours severity were reduced after 30 TMS sessions. In accordance with the latest systematic reviews on the safety of TMS in the paediatric patient (Zewdie et al, 2020) we propose the development of paediatric guidelines to offer this technique to patients with a history of intolerability or poor drug response.

The form of oral calcium (Ca) supplement and the Ca source influence Ca absorption dynamics resulting in different postpartum calcemia. The objective of this study was to investigate whether an oral Ca supplement (mainly CaCO3) offered for voluntary consumption would maintain or increase postpartum blood Ca to the same degree as a Ca bolus (mainly CaCl2) providing an equivalent dose of a Ca. A total of 72 Holstein cows were blocked by expected parturition date and parity. Within each block of 3 animals, cows were randomly assigned to one of three treatments, including an oral Ca supplement offered for voluntary consumption (Ca-drink, n = 23), an oral Ca bolus (Ca-bolus, n = 24), or an untreated group (CON, n = 25). Treatments were administered once within 15 min postpartum. The Ca-drink provided 45 g of Ca (CaCO3 source) and was mixed in 20 L of lukewarm water and offered to cows for 30 min. The Ca-bolus provided 43 g of Ca (71% from CaCl2 and 29% from CaSO4) and was administered once. Both Ca-bolus and CON cows received 20-l of lukewarm water at parturition to standardize the volume of fluids (Ca-drink or 20-l lukewarm water) offered at parturition. Dairy cows offered Ca-drink had a 28% higher fluid consumption than Ca-bolus and CON cows. Milk yield and milk composition expressed in percentage protein, fat, lactose, and urea did not differ, whilst there was a small but significant increase in DMI in cows receiving the Ca-drink compared to CON, while Ca-bolus did not differ from other groups. This was consistent with reduced BW losses between week 1 and 3 in cows receiving the Ca-drink suspension. Treatment by time interactions were present for blood Ca, glucose, and urea concentrations. Blood Ca was relatively stable in Ca-drink cows, while higher fluctuations were observed in Ca-bolus cows. In Ca-bolus cows, blood Ca increased from 15 min to 6 h, decreased from 6 to 24 h, and finally increased again from 24 to 48 h. At 24 h post administration, blood Ca was greater in cows receiving the Ca-drink than cows receiving the Ca-bolus. Blood glucose was greater in Ca-bolus cows at 15 min after treatment administration compared with Ca-bolus and CON, while blood urea was higher in CON than Ca-drink and Ca-bolus throughout the sampling period. These results indicate that voluntary oral Ca resulted in a relatively stable calcemia, whereas higher fluctuations were observed in cows receiving the Ca-bolus. Due to a lack of differences between Ca-drink and Ca-bolus compared with CON, it is not possible to conclude regarding the efficacy in maintaining postpartum blood Ca.
Urea supplementation in rumen and post-rumen for cattle fed a low-quality tropical forage

We evaluated the differences between the supplementation of urea in rumen and/or abomasum on forage digestion, N metabolism and urea kinetics in cattle fed a low-quality tropical forage. Five Nellore heifers were fitted with rumen and abomasum fistulas and assigned to a Latin square design. The treatments were control, continuous infusion of urea in the abomasum (AC), continuous infusion of urea in the rumen, a pulse dose of urea in the rumen every 12 h (PR) and a combination of PR and AC. The control exhibited the lowest (P < 0·10) faecal and urinary N losses, which were, overall, increased by supplementation. The highest urinary N losses (P < 0·10) were observed when urea was either totally or partially supplied as a ruminal pulse dose. The rumen N balance was negative for the control and when urea was totally supplied in the abomasum. The greatest microbial N production (P < 0·10) was obtained when urea was partially or totally supplied in the abomasum. Urea supplementation increased (P < 0·10) the amount of urea recycled to the gastrointestinal tract and the amount of urea-N returned to the ornithine cycle. The greatest (P < 0·10) amounts of urea-N used for anabolism were observed when urea was totally and continuously infused in the abomasum. The continuous abomasal infusion also resulted in the highest (P < 0·10) assimilation of microbial N from recycling. The continuous releasing of urea throughout day either in the rumen or abomasum is able to improve N accretion in the animal body, despite mechanism responsible for that being different.
Eocene ungulate mammals from West Antarctica: implications from their fossil record and a new species

Here we describe a new terrestrial mammal from the Eocene of Seymour Island (Isla Marambio) represented by a lower left third molar and assigned to a new species of Sparnotheriodontidae, an ungulate family with a broad palaeobiogeographical distribution in South America. The specimen was found in the Cucullaea I allomember of the La Meseta Formation, in a new mammalian locality (IAA 2/16). Notiolofos regueroi sp. nov. shares a brachyodont, lophoselenodont and bicrescentic molar pattern with N. arquinotiensis, recorded for a stratigraphic sequence of 17.5 Ma in Antarctica. The criteria for the species differentiation are the absence of mesial and labial cingulids, the larger paraconid, the wider talonid basin, the accentuated distal projection of the hypoconulid, the centroconid development and the smaller size. Together with the astrapotherian Antarctodon sobrali, they represent the medium to large terrestrial mammals of the early Eocene Antarctic landscape that was mostly dominated by closed forests of Nothofagus. Dental wear facets and differences in their body mass are inferred and discussed as possible evidence of niche differentiation. Additionally, the presence of land mammals with Patagonian affinities in the Eocene of Antarctica reinforces the Cretaceous–Palaeocene presence of the Weddellian Isthmus, a functional land corridor between Antarctica and South America.

A new form of Xenungulata Paula Couto, 1952 from red levels of the Peñas Coloradas Formation in a locality near Puerto Visser (45°17'S, 67°01'W), Chubut province, Argentina, is represented by a fragmentary left jaw with the m3 (MPEF-PV 1871). Notoetayoa gargantuai n. gen. and n. sp. is the first ever found in direct association with Carodnia feruglioi Simpson, 1935a which characterizes the incompletely known homonymous zone of the late Paleocene of Patagonia. A preliminary phylogenetic analysis, including representatives of “Condylarthra,” Litopterna, Notoungulata, Pyrotheria, Xenungulata and Astrapotheria, plus the characters that could be scored in the new taxon, was performed using TNT software. A single most parsimonious tree was obtained. Notoetayoa gargantuai has a closer phylogenetic relationship with the Xenungulate Etayoa bacatensis Villarroel, 1987 from the ?middle Paleocene of Colombia than with any other Tertiary ungulate group of South America. Notoetayoa gargantuai fills an important gap in the knowledge of the mammalian faunas from the Paleocene of Patagonia, particularly of the poorly known pre-Itaborian times.

Commission 15 of the International Astronomical Union (IAU), entitled Physical Study of Comets and Minor Planets, was founded in 1935 and dissolved in 2015, following the reorganization of IAU. In 80 years of Commission 15, tremendous progress has been made on the knowledge of these objets, thanks to the combined efforts of ground- and space-based observations, space mission rendezvous and flybys, laboratory simulation and analyses of returned samples, and theoretical and numerical modeling. Together with dynamical studies of the Solar System, this discipline has provided a much deeper understanding of how the Solar System formed and evolved. We present a legacy report of Commission 15, which highlights key milestones in the exploration and knowledge of the small bodies of the Solar System.
Odonatan endophytic oviposition from the Eocene of Patagonia: The ichnogenus Paleoovoidus and implications for behavioral stasis

We document evidence of endophytic oviposition on fossil compression/impression leaves from the early Eocene Laguna del Hunco and middle Eocene Rio Pichileufu floras of Patagonia, Argentina. Based on distinctive morphologies and damage patterns of elongate, ovoid, lens-, or teardrop-shaped scars in the leaves, we assign this insect damage to the ichnogenus Paleoovoidus, consisting of an existing ichnospecies, P. rectus, and two new ichnospecies, P. arcuatum and P. bifurcatus. In P. rectus, the scars are characteristically arranged in linear rows along the midvein; in P. bifurcatus, scars are distributed in double rows along the midvein and parallel to secondary veins; and in P. arcuatum, scars are deployed in rectilinear and arcuate rows. In some cases, the narrow, angulate end of individual scars bear a darkened region encompassing a circular hole or similar feature indicating ovipositor tissue penetration. A comparison to the structure and surface pattern of modern ovipositional damage on dicotyledonous leaves suggests considerable similarity to certain zygopteran Odonata. Specifically, members of the Lestidae probably produced P. rectus and P. bifurcatus, whereas species of Coenagrionidae were responsible for P. arcuatum. Both Patagonian localities represent an elevated diversity of potential fern, gymnosperm, and especially angiosperm hosts, the targets of all observed oviposition. However, we did not detect targeting of particular plant families. Our results indicate behavioral stasis for the three ovipositional patterns for at least 50 million years. Nevertheless, synonymy of these oviposition patterns with mid-Mesozoic ichnospecies indicates older origins for these distinctive modes of oviposition.

DIVISION III: COMMISSION 15: PHYSICAL STUDIES OF COMETS AND MINOR PLANETS

The business meeting of IAU Commission 15 (C15) took place in Beijing on 29 August 2012, from 14:00 to 18:00, in room 405 of the China National Convention Center. This report of the business meeting of Commission 15 at the 2012 IAU GA is based on the report provided by Alberto Cellino, past president, and on the minutes taken by Daniel Hestroffer, secretary of Commission 15 in the triennium 2009 to 2012, and current secretary.

Summary
Laparoscopy has been used for second-look assessments in ovarian cancer since first described in 1973 by Bagley et al. However, it was new developments in equipment and instrumentation, such as videolaparoscopy, high pressure insufflators, and energy sources, in the late 1980s to early 1990s — combined with the work of some of the pioneers of laparoscopic surgery — that made the use of operative laparoscopy in gynecologic oncology feasible. Dargent and Salvat, Querleu et al., and Nezhat et al. first established the safety and practicability of laparoscopic retroperitoneal and intraperitoneal lymphadenectomy and radical hysterectomy. An increasing number of surgeons have since used advanced operative techniques for evaluation and surgical management of gynecologic cancers.
Laparoscopy has the benefit of image magnification to aid in identification of metastatic or recurrent disease, especially in areas such as the upper abdomen, liver and diaphragm surfaces, posterior cul-de-sac, bowel, and mesenteric surfaces. In addition, challenging retroperitoneal spaces of the pelvis, such as the paravesical, pararectal, vesicovaginal, and especially the rectovaginal space, can be accessed laparoscopically. Additional benefits of laparoscopy in gynecologic oncology surgery include limited bleeding from small vessels due to the pressure established by pneumoperitoneum, elimination of large abdominal incisions, shortened hospital stay, and rapid recovery.
