Submissions now open for the 2019 MRS Bulletin Postdoctoral Publication Prize
The Materials Research Society is making strides toward helping postdoctoral researchers through a number of awards and opportunities offered solely to scholars as this early stage of their career. One of these initiatives is the prestigious MRS Bulletin Postdoctoral Publication Prize, now in its third year.
MRS Bulletin Postdoctoral Publication Prize
The MRS Bulletin Postdoctoral Publication Prize recognizes postdoctoral researchers for their intellectual merit and for their ability to demonstrate effective writing and communications through an interest in scientific publications. Candidates need to show promise for future scientific contributions and scholarship in the broad materials field as well as demonstrated interest in scientific writing and communications.
Last year’s winner was Hortense Le Ferrand of Nanyang Technological University. Hortense was selected from more than 75 well-qualified applicants and nominations for “her excellent academic credentials, high-quality scientific publications, science writing and science communications efforts, and potential for future scientific leadership in the materials field.” You can find out more about the 2018 MRS Bulletin Postdoctoral Publication Prize and Hortense here.
Submitting an application or making a nomination
The application and nomination window for the 2019 MRS Bulletin Postdoctoral Publication Prize is currently open with a deadline of July 31, 2019. The prize consists of:
• $2000 cash award
• Recognition at the 2019 MRS Fall Meeting, Boston

• Complimentary one-year membership in the Materials Research Society
MRS Bulletin acknowledges the Jiang Family Foundation and the MTI Corporation for their generous contributions to support this Prize.
If you are a current postdoc and have been so for at least six months (but not more than five years post-PhD), consider submitting an application. If you have postdocs working in your group, encourage them to apply or, alternatively, you can nominate them. The Materials Research Society would like to reiterate the requirement of interest in science writing and communication, as demonstrated by peer-reviewed publications, various forms of writing, editing activities, as well as outreach and other relevant efforts.
