Legal Information Management – the winter 2020 issue – now published!
The winter issue of LIM has been published online and print copies of this issue will follow in due course!
Reviewing the Legal Deposit Libraries Act 2003
The issue begins with a feature article entitled ‘The Legal Deposit Libraries Act 2003: a Mere Coming of Age or Trusted Guardian of the Nation’s Treasures?’ written by Kieran Lee Marshall and Kate Faulkner.
Current Developments in the Law Firm Library World
Our theme for the issue focuses on current developments in law firm libraries with a guest editorial by Jas Breslin. Articles under this heading include: ‘Developing a Knowledge Strategy for a Law Firm’ by Aileen Johnson and Simon Heatley; ‘How to Get the Most Out of a Legal Technology Proof of Value’ by Eleanor White; ‘Selecting and Implementing Knowledge Management Technology in Law Firms’ by Richard Tomlinson; ‘Quest for Data: Implementing an Enquiries Tracking System’ by Jas Breslin; and ‘Covid-19: and the Impact on Print’ by Michael Maher.
Papers from the BIALL ‘Virtual’ Conference 2020
Three of the presentations delivered at last year’s virtual BIALL conference can be found in this issue too. Firstly, and continuing the law firm theme (as mentioned above), Christopher O’Connor writes on ‘Knowledge as a Revenue Driver, Not a Cost Centre: the LexisNexis GLP and How to Use Market Intelligence to Make Knowledge a Vital Growth Engine for Law Firms’.
From the academic world, Lizz Edwards-Waller’s article is called, ‘The Mysterious Affair at Squire: Using Code-Breaking Games to Deliver Law Library Skills’. Alan Wheeler focused on the innovative approach of: ‘Using Lego® Serious Play® in Higher Education with Law Students: Encouraging Playfulness and Creativity within Library Workshops’.
Covid-19 and lockdown…
… is never far from our thoughts. Following on from the theme published in the autumn 2020 issue of LIM which looked on the challenges of lockdown for the legal information profession, a further contribution is published here, written by Peter Kargbo and entitled, ‘Surviving the Covid-19 Pandemic Lockdown’ and taken from the academic library perspective. Doubtless, more will be written on Covid-related matters in the next few issues of the journal and, on that note, the spring 2021 LIM is well under way and will be with you soon!
