What Makes a Person?

We spoke to Dr. Mark Hanson and Dr. Lucy Green, authors of, What Makes a Person? about their recent book and upcoming Cambridge Festival Event, 24 March, 7pm, at Cambridge University Press Book Shop.
Dr. Hanson and Dr. Green are respectively Professor and Associate Professor at the University of Southampton.
Why is your research important?
Because our early lives, for the first 1000 days from the moment of conception to age two, set the scene for our later lives – how easy we find it to stay healthy, what disease we may develop, and even what we may die of. This secret time in our lives shapes our bodies and our minds, even though we have no memories of it.

Tell us about your upcoming Cambridge Festival event?
We’re excited to meet people attending the Cambridge book festival. We hope the audience will have lots of young people and parents ready to discuss our ideas. Knowing Cambridge, we expect some scientists and doctors too!
What inspired you to write the book What Makes a Person?
We know that most young people – the parents of the future – don’t know about the secrets of what makes the next generation. We wanted to tell them so that they can pass on the gift of the best start to life to their children.
