Introducing a new series, Elements in Emergency Neurosurgery
We are delighted to announce the release of “Elements in Emergency Neurosurgery” which is an exciting new publication intended for trainees and practitioners all over the world working in Neurosurgery, Neurology, Emergency Medicine, and Critical Care.
Neurosurgery is an acute specialty, and much of the work involves either emergency or urgent conditions. Neurosurgery teams adopt a variety of models to organise a service to advise and assist with the safe clinical management of these patients. Elements in Emergency Neurosurgery (EEN) is intended to provide core knowledge to enable high quality emergency care for these acutely ill patients. Often, they will require transfer to the Neurosurgical Department for emergency management including surgery.
The Series deals with emergency management of adults and children with acute neurosurgery conditions. A total of 100 Elements including initial Sections dealing with the general principles of emergency neurosurgery and relevant basic neuroscience followed by Sections containing Elements covering a wide range of emergency and urgent clinical conditions within the practice of neurosurgery will be available online over the next few months.

The editorial board consists of 6 very experienced consultant neurosurgeons who together are experts on a wide range of sub-specialties within neurosurgery. The panel of authors have been carefully selected to reflect international expertise and up to date knowledge of the topics. The basic neuroscience Elements provide essential knowledge required to underpin safe clinical decisions. Each clinical Element includes common clinical scenarios, core knowledge, clinical pathways, diagnosis, management algorithms and pitfalls as well as technical notes, guidelines, and a list of references.
You will find the Elements to be comprehensive and based on hands on clinical experience. The principles of management will be a guide and can be adopted into neurosurgical practice all over the world.
