Gold nanoparticle—liquid crystal thin film shows off photonic and plasmonic flipping

We are pleased to announce the 2019 MRS Communications Lecture award for excellence in the field of materials research through work published in MRS Communications.

Congratulations to Timothy J. Bunning with Luciano De Sio, Ugo Cataldi, Alexa Guglielmelli, Thomas Bürgi, and Nelson Tabiryan for their article, Dynamic optical properties of gold nanoparticles/cholesteric liquid crystal arrays – published June 2018 (Volume 8, Issue 2).

By coupling gold nanoparticles with a film of liquid crystals researchers have assembled a structure with optical properties that can be modulated plasmonically. The team’s design could add a new level of flexibility to existing photonic and plasmonic devices. Enjoy free access to this MRS Communications paper until June 30, 2019.
