New read-only option on Higher Education from Cambridge University Press

Since the launch of our Higher Education website in August 2020, we have been listening to your feedback and looking for ways we can improve the site.

One of the areas we received feedback about was the need to log in to both the library system and via an individual user account to access the content. Although the individual user account login is necessary to allow students to access all benefits such as annotations and highlighting text, many requested the want to be able to simply read the content without an additional personal login.

Therefore we are delighted to share with you that we have done just that! A new read-only piece of functionality has been released*. This will allow a user to open a read-only format of a textbook that they have institutional access to, without requiring them to log in with their personal details. Now when a user clicks ‘Read this book online’, if a user is not logged in to their account, they will be offered the chance to log in or continue with read-only access.

You can test out the new functionality on our Open Access textbook A Critical Introduction to International Criminal Law.

We hope you find this new feature helpful. As always we welcome your feedback which you can share with us at hefeedback@cambridge.org

*Please note this new read-only format is only available on desktops. Unfortunately we are not able to offer a read-only option on mobile as the app is unable to support the software.
