Cambridge University Press and Jisc reach new Read and Publish Agreement

After a Jisc-led consultation that started last year, Cambridge University Press and Jisc have reached an agreement to offer a range of flexible Read and Publish options to all UK institutions for a 4 year period from 2021 to 2024.

This blog post will take a look at how Cambridge and Jisc came to the agreement and the ethos of our approach. Full details of the options included in the agreement, what support is available, and how you can make the most of the agreement will follow soon.

Flexible

The agreement has been designed to offer flexibility so that institutions can select an option that fits best with their current situation. If an institution is in a position to completely transition to OA publishing in Cambridge journals that option is available, but if an institution would prefer a slower rate of change that’s more manageable for them the agreement can accommodate alternative approaches.

Inclusive

The agreement has been designed in a way that takes into account differing approaches to the transition to OA publishing whilst keeping the transition under one broad umbrella. It is our hope that by offering a range of options we can avoid any UK institution being left behind. The agreement enables every institution a method for participating in a transitionary deal and be compliant with Plan S requirements.

Considered

Cambridge University Press and Jisc have held extensive discussions over the last year in order to arrive at an agreement that best suits all UK institutions. We have sought to hear many voices during this process, and the agreement has, at its core, the desire to offer an affordable transition to OA that UK institutions find comfortable depending on their current situation.

The flexibility and inclusiveness of the agreement give us and Jisc hope that it will generate an increase of OA publishing over the next 4 years.
