Q&A with Marwan El Ghoch, Editorial Board Member for Experimental Results, Life Science & Biomedicine Section

This is the latest of an ongoing series of interviews with people involved with our new Open Access journal, Experimental Results – a forum for short research papers from experimental disciplines across Science, Technology and Medicine, providing authors with an outlet for rapid publication of small chunks of research findings with maximum visibility.

Can you tell us a bit about your background?
I earned my degree in Medicine and Surgery from the Medical School of the University of Bologna in Italy, followed by the Specialisation Degree in Clinical Nutrition from the School of Food Science of the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia in Italy.

What your current research is focused on?
My current research is mainly focused in clinical setting on eating disorders and obesity, in terms of body composition, energy expenditure, physical activity, health-related quality of life, as well as treatment outcomes.

What has been your greatest achievement in your career so far?
I was always fascinated with the study of body composition models in humans. In fact my greatest achievement in my career in the last decade was research conducted on body composition in patients with anorexia nervosa that extensively clarified several clinical aspects on the changes of body fat, skeletal muscle and bone mass in this population.

What is your biggest challenge in your career?
My biggest challenge now is to study in order to understand better a new phenotype defined as “Sarcopenic Obesity”, still surrounded by many uncertainties in terms of Definition, Health Consequences and Management.

Why did you decide to become an Editorial Board Member?
The role of Editorial Board Member is important for the scientific community and hopefully will keep me always exposed to the most recent research conducted in my field.

How will Experimental Results benefit your research field?
For sure the papers published in a reputable journal as Experimental Results released by a prestigious publisher such as Cambridge University Press will get a wide visibility and this will contribute indirectly in the development and the growth of the my research field.

What excites you about Experimental Results?
The innovative approach adopted by Experimental Results exited me a lot, which simplify but at the same time valorise the concept of research publication for both researchers as well as readers.
