Latest CJO development: article level metrics
To help readers analyse and assess the impact and dissemination of articles, we’ve introduced article level metrics. The stats are available in a ‘Metrics’ section, situated below the article abstract.
The metrics are currently available only for Open Access (OA) articles and give the following information:
• The total number of abstract views.
• The total number of full text views (PDF + HTML).
• A cumulative line graph, showing the number of abstract, HTML and PDF views.
• A histogram graph, showing the number of abstract, HTML and PDF views per year.
• An option to download article usage.
• Links to CrossRef and Google Scholar, with the number of citations recorded in each for the article.
The data is fed by our existing reporting system, which provides usage stats to industry standards (COUNTER) and has been used extensively by librarians for many years.
To view the functionality, a good example is the journal Psychological Medicine. Click on the Open Access tab, below the journal cover, open an abstract from the list of articles displayed, and then choose the ‘Metrics’ option, below the abstract.
There are an increasing number of Open Access (OA) articles being published on CJO, currently within hybrid OA/subscription model journals, but also soon in new, entirely OA Journals like Journal of Nutritional Science.

It is very good for us.
