The Potassium Paradox

Saeed A. Khan, Ph.D., ,Richard L Mulvaney, Ph.D. and Timothy R Ellsworth, Ph.D. have published a compelling and provocative article on “The potassium paradox: Implications for soil fertility, crop production and human health.” Employing an exhaustive literature review and thorough and rigorous primary data analysis, they question the current protocols for evaluating crop available K in soils and the corresponding management recommendations for augmenting it. This is groundbreaking work which should become the precursor to a larger and sincere conversation about soil fertility in cropping systems in regards to K recommendations based on current testing methods.
