5 books to begin exploring Higher Education from Cambridge University Press

On June 30th the Higher Education website initially launched with a small selection of 80 online textbooks, with more titles due to be added throughout the following months. Before the end of the year, we hope to have more than 750 textbooks available to access via the website.

It’s no secret that we feel passionate about the books we publish at Cambridge University Press. In this blog post, we spoke to Sian Welch, Global Marketing Manager for Higher Education, located in New York, who has highlighted some of the books that she and her team are most excited to market this year.

Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans, Intersex, and Queer Psychology

Following the Pride month, it is important to continue having a discussion about LGBTIQ health, relationships, parenting, ageing and a whole range of other issues. The first edition of “Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans, Intersex, and Queer Psychology” earned a Book Award (Textbook Category) from the British Psychological Society. The new edition, published earlier this year, has been extensively revised to address substantial developments and emerging areas, such as people born with intersex variations, transgender and non-binary genders, intersectionality, and gender-diverse children. It also includes new features to support teaching and learning, and to facilitate discussion and reflection.

Black Political Thought

This important and vital textbook will guide you through past, present and future issues of African American lives and politics. It brings together the discourses central to black political thought, compiling a unique anthology of speeches and articles from over 200 years of African American history, written by educators, activists and journalists. Providing in-depth examinations and critical analyses of topics such as slavery, reconstruction, race and racism, black nationalism and black feminism – from a range of perspectives – this book will show how attitudes have developed over time and what the trends are.

An Introduction to International Organizations Law

This market leading textbook addresses such topics as legal instruments, bureaucracy and financing of international organizations. It is just one highlight from our world-class Law textbooks collection. This book looks at the dynamics of the relationships between international organizations and their internal bodies, their staff, and the outside world – and is essential reading for anyone teaching or studying an International Organizations course. Make a note in your diary – the new 4th edition is coming in early 2021.

A Concise History of History

This short history of history covers a lot of ground, from the earliest known forms of historical writing in the ancient Near East right through to the present and covering developments in Europe, Asia, Africa and the Americas. It also touches on the latest topics and debates in the field, such as “Big History”, “Deep History” and the impact of the electronic age. It is a truly global account of the process that led to the hegemony of Western historiographical methods and is an ideal introduction for those studying or teaching the historian’s craft, historical theory and method, and historiography.

Decision-Making in American Foreign Policy

Who isn’t interested in what happens behind the closed doors of the White House and US government? This book covers such topics as foreign policy analysis, domestic politics, leadership, and provides an insight into those leaders as human beings. “Decision-Making in American Foreign Policy” focuses on real-world case studies of recent events to help students turn theory into practice, and this sets it apart from other books in the field.

In future blog posts we will learn from other colleagues from all over the world about their favourite textbooks. Meanwhile, to find out about Higher Education from Cambridge University Press and browse the wide range of subjects we publish, please visit here.
