In memory of Prof. Zunqi Lin
Prof. Zunqi Lin, co-editor-in-chief of HPL, passed away aged 76 in Shanghai, China, on 28th May.
He was one of the pioneers of inertial confinement fusion science in China, and a well-respected scientist in high power laser from Shanghai Institute of Optics and Fine Mechanics. He was elected the academician of CAS in 2003.
Prof. Lin was a specialist in the field of research of solid state high power laser and laser interaction with matter. Born in Beijing, China in June1942, he graduated from the Radio Department, University of Science and Technology of China in 1964 and completed his postgraduate study in 1968.
Prof. Lin engaged in laser fusion science including the research of high power laser driver, X-ray laser, and laser-plasma interactions. On the construction of SG-Ⅱ High Power Laser Facility, he overcame many scientific and technical difficulties.
He had supervised over 40 postgraduates and published over 300 scientific papers.
Prof. Lin also made a great contribution to this journal, and devoted all his life to the research and international cooperation in the scope of high power laser.
He was an outstanding scientist and an extraordinary man, whose work and legacy will live on with us. He was also a great advisor, a dedicated colleague and a lovely friend with his brilliance and modesty inspiring a lot of people. He will be dearly missed by us. May his soul rest in peace.
