Announcing the VII SPS Annual Lecture

The VII annual meeting and lecture of the journal Social Policy and Society (SPS) will take place on Friday 7th June 2024, between 12pm and 3.30pm, at the University of Derby.

The meeting is supported by the Social Policy Association (SPA) and Cambridge University Press, and will be hosted by the Centre for Applied Social Sciences, Policy, Practice and Research (CASSPPR) at the University of Derby.

This special event is organised in collaboration with the SPA Social Policy Groups, with the aim of reviewing and discussing key policy challenges in the UK ahead of the next General Election. The event will feature presentations by academic representatives of these groups, focused on the following policy areas, and will be followed by a round table discussion and Q&A with attendees.

• Climate Justice Policy – Prof. Carolyn Snell (University of York)

• Employment Policy – Dr. Nye Cominetti (Resolution Foundation)

• Family Policy – Dr. Sung-Hee Lee (University of Derby)

• Housing Policy – Prof. Vikki McCall (University of Sterling)

• Pension Policy – Prof. Liam Foster (University of Sheffield)

• Social Harm – Dr. Nasrul Ismail (University of Bristol)

• Tax Policy – Dr. Sally Ruane (De Montfort University)

With Prof. Alessio D’Angelo (University of Derby) and Dr. Ruby Chau (University of Nottingham) as Chairs.

This will be a hybrid event, though we warmly encourage SPA members, and SPS readers and contributors to join in person if they can for an opportunity to network and get to know each other. The presentations will begin at 1pm following on from a networking lunch.
