History

With its Gothic Revival architecture, The Pitt Building is a Cambridge icon and once housed the printing and publishing office of Cambridge University Press. Its construction was commissioned in honour of William Pitt the Younger, an undergraduate of Pembroke College and former Prime Minister.

Our Annual Gulf Research Meeting commenced in 2009. Since 2010 we have been using the facilities at The Pitt Building. Our workshop directors and participants do enjoy the facilities every year and the staff are very professional and attentive.

FAQs

    Do you have on-site parking? Or where is the nearest carpark?

    As part of our sustainability commitment, we encourage our visitors to either walk, cycle or use public transport where possible. For directions, please visit our Getting Here page.

    For equipment delivery, we can arrange a short, dedicated drop-off time slot. Vehicles must then be moved to alternative parking facilities. The nearest of which is the public Grand Arcade car park (Corn Exchange Street, CB2 3QF), a short five-minute walk away from The Pitt Building. 

    Are you open at weekends?

    Our standard opening hours are 8.30 am - 5.30 pm, Monday to Friday. However, if you would like to host an exhibition over a weekend, please contact us and we will always do our best to accommodate your event.

    Do you have insurance?

    Yes, we have public and private liability insurance.

    What is your cancellation policy?

    If you need to cancel your event space hire, a cancellation charge equal to the following percentage of the charge will apply:

     

    • Notice of cancellation more than 10 working days prior to the event - no charge (0%)
    • Notice of cancellation six to 10 working days prior to the event - 50%
    • Notice of cancellation less than six working days prior to the event - full charge (100%)
