Parasitology is flipping to Open access from January 2023
From January 2023, Parasitology will become an Open Access (OA) journal within Cambridge University Press, where a total of 14 other hosted journals within the Life Sciences are now fully OA. The many benefits of OA include:

- Visibility: Content is freely available online immediately upon publication, giving the potential for increased exposure and dissemination.
- Accessibility: Gold Open Access allows all readers with internet access around the world to access published research without having to pay.
- Quality: All submissions will be fully peer-reviewed.
- Global Impact: Anyone can benefit from the output of research which can help to drive innovation and lead to new discoveries.
- Funder Compliance: Many funders are now mandating for research to be published via open access.
As Parasitology now follows this transition, there are some ‘hard’ deadlines that authors and readers should be aware of. Foremost, from October all manuscripts submitted to Parasitology must be OA ready where an Article Processing Charge (APC) is now payable. This follows the change from institutional subscription financing towards an OA financial model.
According to more general CUP guidelines for APCs, authors and/or students from the low-income/middle countries are able to request an APC waiver, which will be handled on a case-by-case basis. Further information will be found on the article submission page as part of our newly revised the guide for authors.
Late in October, our Editor-in-Chief and Deputy Editor-in-Chief will write an Editorial to further outline these steps and review progress during the past year needed to make this OA transition.
We look forward to continuing to service the needs of both authors and readers to be best kept updated in the latest parasitological research.

Message from Cambridge University Press: From the 3rd October 2022, Parasitology will be moving to a Gold Open Access publishing model. All articles submitted to the journal from this date will be published, if accepted, with a non-exclusive Gold Open Access CC-BY licence (see here for more detail), and will be subject to an Article Processing Charge. Many corresponding authors will have their APC covered by a transformative agreement; check here to see if your institution is covered. See this FAQ for more information.
