Further example of lire in the sense of 'to read aloud', whether to oneself or to an audience, which also are evidence of literacy or illiteracy, are the following:

In Beroul's Tristran, the letter to King Mark, offering reconciliation, is written by the hermit Ogrin (1. 2428), its content being dictated by Tristran. The king is unable to read it and the chaplain is called upon:
Dan chapelain, lisiez le brief,
oiant nos toz, de chief en chief.
(l. 2547.)The chaplain is also ordered to write an answer:
Li rois son chapelain apele:
