The advent of artificial intelligence (AI) is not an ordinary change. In the epic battle between human consciousness shaping the human desire to survive and the forces of nature that constantly inundate human mind with the fears of the unknown, economic revolutions serve as the mediating bridges. Agricultural revolution brought humans out of the jungle, and industrial revolution gave humans the perception of greater control over their surroundings. The information revolution enhanced that aura of control and Internet provided a sense of collective consciousness. Our fears and aspirations became shared and collective.
While revolutionary in similar respects as the ones just pointed out, this new era of machines is unlike what we have ever seen before. In all previous revolutions, machines were subservient to humans. Whether a plow in a farmer's hands, or the car's steering wheel, or a program running in a computer, machines did what humans wanted and expected them to do. That is not the case anymore. In this revolution however, there is a clear path to a shared future between machines and humans—a future that humans have never prepared for. The AI era therefore requires a new sense of humbleness and curiosity as never undertaken before. It requires a new level of collective consciousness.
By all indications this is the defining moment for the human civilization. It is when humankind must recognize the gravity of the situation. From the government perspective, there is grave responsibility. In fact, a century from now, if humankind makes it that far, the historians will look back at today's governments to observe what was done right and what went wrong. The central message of this book is to “plan.” This book is about planning the course of human civilization to embrace and understand the revolutionary dynamics of the AI revolution and then implement those plans.
The dynamics of this revolution are powerful. We need to plan, we need to have a strategy, we need to have awareness, and we need to have a clear path forward for the entire humankind. From designing the structural dynamics of the revolution in a country to managing unemployment, retraining, and reskilling the population, this book gives a clear path to make AI a national and an international success.
