With Curiosity, Creativity, and Care: Student Authors in Advances in Archaeological Practice
In this collection we share articles lead-authored by students who have advanced archaeological practice in their work as undergraduate and graduate students. Their theses and dissertations have been places to try new technologies in the lab and field, to develop new methodologies, and to consider their positionality as they note the challenges of diversity and inequity in the discipline and seek to find a just path to the future. This set of articles spans the range of topics in the journal including public archaeology and interpretation, working in collaboration with communities, creating safe work spaces, documentation of sites and landscapes through remote sensing, site management on land and underwater, developing ethical research practices, collection care and reuse, and machine learning. Their work can be technologically precocious and is ethically centered. We celebrate these student authors – many who are now in the first years of their post-graduate careers —and the professors, peers, and mentors who fostered and supported their work.
