After many years of distinguished service to the Journal, Graeme Hocking has stood aside as my Co-Chief Editor. I must say that it has been a pleasure to work with Graeme and I thank him profusely for his immense contribution. He has always shouldered more than his fair share of the effort required to keep the Journal afloat and at times I feel that I have acted as little more than a passenger. I still count on his invaluable contribution as an Associate Editor.

Graeme and I have endeavoured to maintain a varied and contemporary mixture of articles but, as always, we rely on authors to keep a steady flow of papers in the pipeline. I encourage readers to remember the Journal when considering where to submit their work; we are always on the look-out for good-quality interesting articles, especially from researchers based in this part of the world.

I welcome on board the new Co-Chief Editor, Mike Meylan from The University of Newcastle. Mike’s research spans a wide range of topics characterized by the application of differential equations to practical problems; current projects include wave propagation in the marginal ice zone and the effect of floodwaters on rail tracks. I hope that we can ensure that the Journal remains a publication of which the ANZIAM community can be proud.

Two Associate Editors have indicated that they are no longer able to serve on the board. I thank Amie Albrecht and Song-Ping Zhu for their work on behalf of the Journal and wish them well.

As always, we are interested in ways by which we may enhance the reputation, visibility and impact of the Journal. If readers have suggestions, please do not hesitate to let us know. We are open to considering topics that might make appealing special issues or ideas for papers that might be of interest to a wide-ranging audience of applied mathematicians.
