Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee on Plastic Pollution (INC-1 - INC-5)

The Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee on Plastic Pollution (INC-1 - INC-5) is a pivotal platform for addressing one of the most pressing environmental challenges. As the negotiations progress toward their culminating session in 2024, we invite contributions to a Collection devoted to both your thoughts on the progress and achievements of the negotiations, as well as the fundamental research that is contributing to the topics covered by the negotiations.

We welcome original research articles, perspectives, and case studies on a range of topics related to the INC negotiations, including but not limited to:

  • Plastic pollution: Understanding its impacts on ecosystems, wildlife, human health, and the environment.
  • Policy and governance: Analyzing the effectiveness of existing policies, proposing innovative regulatory frameworks, and exploring avenues for international cooperation.
  • Sustainable alternatives: Assessing the feasibility and scalability of alternative materials, technologies, and practices to reduce plastic consumption and waste.
  • Recycling infrastructure: Examining the challenges and opportunities in developing robust recycling systems and circular economy models.
  • Socio-economic dimensions: Investigating the social and economic implications of plastic pollution mitigation strategies, including equity, justice, and livelihoods.

Submissions can encompass empirical studies, theoretical analyses, case studies, policy evaluations, and interdisciplinary perspectives. We particularly encourage contributions that offer actionable insights and contribute to the advancement of knowledge and policy in this critical domain.

Manuscripts should be submitted directly to the journals submission system, following the guidelines provided. All submissions will undergo a rigorous peer-review process to ensure the quality and relevance of the content.

Submission deadline: January 1st 2025. If accepted, all manuscripts are published on acceptance and added to a growing Collection that closes early 2025.

This Collection is led by the Editor-in-Chief of Cambridge Prisms: Plastics; Professor Steve Fletcher.
