At the final dinner, Dr George Scotter received the James Harkin Award, named after Canada's first Director of National Parks. Dr Scotter had been active in floral and faunal studies in Canada's parks for some twenty years, and, through a public lecture series, ‘was central to marshalling public support for the Nahanni National Park [of nearly half-a-million hectares], now a World Heritage site’ (Harold K. Eidsvik, in litt.).
