New records for the tsetse, Glossina pallidipes Austen, from Southern Sudan

Abstract

Glossina pallidipes was recorded from two widely separated areas in southern Sudan, far from any previously known localities: west of Torit, Eastern Equatoria Province and around Yambio, Western Equatoria Province. These records are discussed in relation to the local habitat and associated tsetse species; and it is suggested that G. pallidipes may be becoming more common and widespread in the region.

Résumé

Glossina pallidipes a été trouvé dans deux localités différents du Sud Soudan, éloignés de celles précédemment connues; la première à l'Ouest de Torit (Eastern Equatoria Province) et la seconde aux environs de Yambio (Western Equatoria Province). Ces données sont discutées en relation avec l'environnement et l'association avec d'autres espèces de tsetse et il suggéré que G. pallidipes puisse devenir plus commune at répandue dans la région.
