page 125 note 1 Mr. Thompson suggests that some species of Astragalus is meant. This is supported by the Syriac kūšnā, on which see Löw, No. 170. One is irresistibly reminded of the superstitions relating to magical plants, and, as Jensen points out (Kosmologie der Babylonier, p. 249, n. 1), it was probably used as an oracle.
