Kate Curr has been a Librarian since 1983. She has held a number of positions in both Academic and Special Libraries, and her background has been in both Technical and Reader Services. She is now currently employed as the Manager, Library Systems and Information Resources at NSW Parliamentary Library where she has been since 1995. As part of her responsibilities in this role she has been responsible for the installation of a new ILMS and the creation and management of the Library's digital collections. As Manager, Library Systems and Information Resources, she is also responsible for the delivery of all of the Library's electronic resources via an intranet.This article deals with one experience of creating a digital collection. Kate Curr's paper was originally produced for the Librarian's Symposium in Sydney in July 2000, an edited version of which was published in the Australian Law Librarian

There are a wide variety of reasons for you to decide to create a digital collection in your library but there are a number of questions that you should ask about the collection before you make any final decisions. This article does not attempt to provide answers to these questions, as the answers will vary greatly from library to library and depending on the different types of information being considered, but rather it highlights those issues you should consider when evaluating collections. The case study of the NSW Electoral Profiles shows how the NSW Parliamentary Library created a digital collection in response to a demand from our users for information and a need to be able to deliver it quickly across a wide area.
