Abstract

The results of fracture tests on rocks, pastes, and paste/rock interfaces are presented. Variables included rock type (andesite, dolomite, and granite), w/c ratio (0.3 - 0.55) and age of test (3 - 91 d). The results illustrate the variability inherent in toughness measurements on naturally fractured rough rock interfaces, but also indicate that interface toughness is not necessarily intrinsically lower than that of pure paste.
