Lattice Occupation Determination of Hafnium in Ni3Al by Pac

Abstract

Using the perturbed angular correlations technique we have investigated the intermetallic alloy Ni76Al24Hf1 in order to determine the lattice location of the Hf in the ordered Ni3Al structure. From the fact that the Hf atoms sense an electric field gradient it is concluded that most of the Hf resides on Ni-sublattice sites.
