* I am here as a late replacement for B.S. Chimni of Jawaharlal Nehru University who was originally listed with Professor Mutua to speak on the topic of Third World Approaches on International Law. It is unfortunate that Professor Chimni cannot be with us because he has made such a significant contribution to Third World scholarship, the subject of these lectures; and also because he has played such an important role in reviving interest in Third World Approaches to International Law. In particular, Professor Chimni, together with James Gathii, Celestine Nyamu, Vasuki Nesiah, Hani Sayed and Amr Shalakany, organized the Third World Approaches to International Law Conference in March 1997 at Harvard Law School.
