Everyone “knows” that stressors have a deleterious effect on fertility. The aim of our work has been to provide definitive evidence for such a statement, and examine the endocrine mechanisms involved. For example, the chronic stressors of periparturient diseases or lameness increase,the intervals from calving to first service or conception, and the number of inseminations required per conception (Table 1).
