Call for Contributions to the Cognitive Behaviour Therapist (tCBT)
CBT across neurotypes: from theory to practice
Guest Editors: Ailsa Russell, Kate Cooper, Emma Crouch
People with neurodivergent conditions such as Autism and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) can need help for mental health problems including anxiety and depression. Research indicates that evidence based cognitive behavioural interventions can be adapted successfully to meet neurodivergent people’s needs. How can we increase access to and confidence in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) for neurodivergent clients seeking help and CBT therapists helping them.
The Cognitive Behaviour Therapist (tCBT) invites you to contribute to a special issue addressing this topic.
Aims:
To present a special issue of the journal which provides CBT practitioners with an overview of the current state of the field for adapting CBT practice neurodivergent individuals.
- What evidence is available to support CBT practitioners to make effective adaptations for their neurodivergent clients?
- What are the key implementation issues which should be addressed to improve outcomes for neurodivergent clients?
- Where are the gaps in the literature which should be pursued in future clinical research endeavours?
To achieve these aims, this issue will include the following topics:
- Evidence for adapted CBT for neurodivergent people
- Review of theoretical work with clear applications e.g. maintenance factors or mechanisms of change and how these are best targeted in neurodivergent groups
- Practice implications – what is available to implement, what is lacking and what needs to be developed.
- Illustrations of effective and helpful practice
- Service implications including training and supervision
See the website for details of paper types published in tCBT and author instructions (cambridge.org)
