Summary

Transsexualism is not usually indicative of psychopathology. In carefullyselected individuals, with multidisciplinary support, a change of socialgender role and cross-sex hormone treatment greatly improves thepsychological and social state. Sustained improvement merits genderreassignment surgery. The key is early referral with subsequent primary carecooperation in the treatment plan.
