Following the recent description of Epitrix papa Orlova-Bienkowskaja, 2015 and additional specimen collection from North America, species misidentifications in the above mentioned paper must be notified and corrected.
A morphological comparison of specimens of Epitrix similaris Gentner, 1944 from Portugal with paratypes of E. similaris from California revealed that the species present in Portugal was misidentified as E. similaris. Specimens belong to the recently described E. papa (Orlova-Bienkowskaja, 2015) rather than to E. similaris (Table 1).
Update of GenBank sequence records
Morphological and molecular characterization of specimens of E. similaris collected in July 2015 in California revealed that the Californian specimens included in the study were misidentified as E. subcrinita (LeConte, 1857). They are instead specimens of E. similaris. Similarly, examination of specimens of E. brevis Schwarz, 1878 collected in July 2014 in Virginia revealed that the specimens from Kansas included in the study belong to E. brevis rather than to E. fasciata.
The authors apologize for these misidentifications. In order to avoid further mistakes, information associated to CO1 and ITS2 sequences deposited in Genbank have been corrected (Table 1).
