In this paper, we propose a fast proximity point algorithm and apply it to total variation (TV) based image restoration. The novel method is derived from the idea of establishing a general proximity point operator framework based on which new first-order schemes for total variation (TV) based image restoration have been proposed. Many current algorithms for TV-based image restoration, such as Chambolle’s projection algorithm, the split Bregman algorithm, the Bermúdez-Moreno algorithm, the Jia-Zhao denoising algorithm, and the fixed point algorithm, can be viewed as special cases of the new first-order schemes. Moreover, the convergence of the new algorithm has been analyzed at length. Finally, we make comparisons with the split Bregman algorithm which is one of the best algorithms for solving TV-based image restoration at present. Numerical experiments illustrate the efficiency of the proposed algorithms.

Understanding blood flow in human body’s cerebral arterial system is of both fundamental and practical significance for prevention and treatment of vascular diseases. The mechanism and treatment for the growth of daughter aneurysm on its mother aneurysm are not yet fully understood. Themain purpose of the present paper is to elucidate the relationships between hemodynamics and the genesis, growth, subsequent rupture of the mother and daughter aneurysm on the cerebral vascular. The intensified stents with different porosities and structures are investigated to reduce the wall shear stress and pressure of mother and daughter aneurysm. The simulation is based on a lattice Boltzmann modeling of non-Newtonian blood flow. A novel stent structurewith “dense in front and sparse in rear” is proposed,which is verified to have good potential to reduce the wall shear stress of both mother and daughter aneurysm. In this paper, we revisit a priori error analysis of nonconforming finite element methods for the Poisson problem. Based on some techniques developed in the context of the a posteriori error analysis, under two reasonable assumptions on the nonconforming finite element spaces, we prove that, up to some oscillation terms, the consistency error can be bounded by the approximation error. We check these two assumptions for the most used lower order nonconforming finite element methods. Compared with the classical error analysis of the nonconforming finite element method, the a priori analysis herein only needs the H1 regularity of the exact solution.

In this paper, a nonlinear boundary value problem in a three dimensional thin domain with Tresca’s friction law is considered. The small change of variable z = x3/ε transforms the initial problem posed in the domain Ωε into a new problem posed on a fixed domain Ω independent of the parameter ε. As a main result, we obtain some estimates independent of the small parameter. The passage to the limit on ε, permits to prove the results concerning the limit of the weak problem and its uniqueness.

In this paper, we study an efficient scheme for nonlinear reaction-diffusion equations discretized by mixed finite element methods. We mainly concern the case when pressure coefficients and source terms are nonlinear. To linearize the nonlinear mixed equations, we use the two-grid algorithm. We first solve the nonlinear equations on the coarse grid, then, on the fine mesh, we solve a linearized problem using Newton iteration once. It is shown that the algorithm can achieve asymptotically optimal approximation as long as the mesh sizes satisfy H = O(h1/2). As a result, solving such a large class of nonlinear equations will not be much more difficult than getting solutions of one linearized system.

This paper investigates the laminar boundary layer flow of nanofluid induced by a radially stretching sheet. Nanofluid model exhibiting Brownian motion and thermophoresis is used. Series solutions for a reduced system of nonlinear ordinary differential equations are obtained by homotopy analysis method (HAM). Comparative study between the HAM solutions and previously published numerical results shows an excellent agreement. Velocity, temperature and mass fraction are displayed for various values of parameters. The local skin friction coefficient, the local Nusselt number and the local Sherwood number are computed. It is observed that the presence of nanoparticles enhances the thermal conductivity of base fluid. It is found that the convective heat transfer coefficient (Nusselt number) is decreased with an increase in concentration of nanoparticles whereas Sherwood number increases when concentration of nanoparticles in the base fluid is increased.

This paper presents an analytical solution for the interaction of electric potentials, electric displacement, elastic deformations, and describes hygrothermal effect responses in hollow and solid cylinders, subjected to mechanical load and electric potential. Exact solutions for displacement, stresses and electric potentials in functionally graded piezoelectric material are determined using the infinitesimal theory. The material properties coefficients of the present cylinder are assumed to be graded in the radial direction by a power law distribution. Numerical examples display the significant of influence of material inhomogeneity. It is interesting to note that selecting a specific value of inhomogeneity parameter can optimize the piezoelectric hollow and solid cylinders responses, which will be of particular importance in modern engineering designs.

In this paper, we develop an accurate and efficient Legendre wavelets method for numerical solution of the well known time-fractional telegraph equation. In the proposed method we have employed both of the operational matrices of fractional integration and differentiation to get numerical solution of the time-telegraph equation. The power of this manageable method is confirmed. Moreover the use of Legendre wavelet is found to be accurate, simple and fast.
