Summary

Current knowledge of the role of autoimmunity in the pathogenesis of themain psychiatric disorders is briefly outlined. The significance ofimmunological effects on synaptic transmission and associatedneuropsychiatric syndromes is emphasised. Clinical psychiatrists areencouraged to keep abreast of developments in this increasingly importantarea.
