Summary

Genetic testing for risk of depression requires a reconsideration of ethicalissues in genetics and how they manifest in psychiatric practice. Aprecautionary approach is advocated in that there should be limits on theuse of the 5-HTT genetic test until its clinical utility and broader socialimpact are better understood.
