A specimen in the British Museum, consisting mainly of brown chalybite and decomposed iron pyrites--the latter mostly converted into earthy oxides--bears upon its surfitce and in its cavities a number of thin prisms encrusted with a botryoidal yellowish substance which covers a great part of the decomposed specimen. On close inspection the needles are seen to be Cronstedtite, mostly but not entirely converted into black limonite, and the encrusting substance consists mainly of phosphate (with a little carbonate) of lime. The latter is sometimes crystalline on its surface.

On November 14th, 1892, Prof. J. A. Krenner read before the Hungarian Academy of Sciences an account of a new silver ore from Felsöbánya, to which he gave the name of Andofite. It was described as orthorhombie with a : b : c = 0.97756 : 1 : 0.86995, and as having the chemical composition 2PbS.Ag2S.3Sb2S3.

This new antimonate was found in the cinnabar-bearing gravel of Tripuhy, Minas Geraes, Brazil. The minerals associated with it in the gravel, including the two new titano-antimonates lewisite and derbylite, have already been described in this Magazine (Vol. XI. No. 50, p. 80, and No. 52, p. 176). The original source of the lewisite and derbylite has been proved to be the muscovite-schists accompanying itabirite in the neighbourhood of Tripuhy, From these schists, doubtless, is also derived the tripuhyite, although as yet this new mineral has only been found in fragments loose in tbe gravel, and not intergrown with fragments of the muscovite-schists as is often the ease with both lewisite and derbylite.

As the phosphates of the cerium and yttrium groups, monazite aud xenotime, have proved to be quite widespread microscopic accessories in certain types of Brazilian granites and gneisses, "a batea test has recently been made on a number of hand specimens obtained from the mineral establishment of Dr. F. Krantz, of Bonn, for the purpose of determining if these interesting minerals were equally characteristic of the corresponding types of European rocks. About half of an ordinary museum specimen was crushed in a porcelain mortar to pass through a moderately fine sieve, concentrated in the batea and examined under the microscope after cleaning with the Thoulet or Klein solution, or both, and, when necessary, with the electro-magnet. The identifications of the minerals in the residues thus obtained, especially in cases of doubt, have been kindly revised by Dr. Eugen Hussak.

The Salt Range of the Northern Punjab derives its name from the numerous beds of rock salt which are there included amidst the pre-Cambrian strata. Some of these salt beds are of great purity and immense thickness, and have been utilised as a source of the mineral from a remote period, while extensive mines have been opened out by Government since the annexation of the province. The blödite referred to below was discovered in these workings by Dr. H. Warth, lately Deputy Superintendent of the Geological Survey of India, but who, at the time alluded to, held charge of the mines in question.

In the so-called " blue ground " of the tarm Koppiesfontein, in the neighbourhood of Jagersfontein, Orange Free State, a prospecting shaft was put down; and in the 110 ft. level struck a blue-grey, soft, and apparently talcose serpentine-like mass. The latter was densely studded with a great number of small, completely formed, light coloured crystals, which in some places lie very close together. The crystals may be easily isolated from this matrix, in which they leave smooth-sided and sharpedged moulds.
