Mark Radford is currently Chief Nursing Officer at University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust and a Visiting Professor of Nursing at Birmingham City University. He was previously a Consultant Nurse in Perioperative Emergency Care at Good Hope Hospital, part of Heart of England Foundation Trust. His clinical work has focused on the management of emergency surgery and trauma patients. As a nurse he has previously worked in anaesthetics, preoperative assessment, critical care and A&E (Accident and Emergency) in the UK and Europe.

Mark has also been a member of the executive committee for the British Anaesthetic and Recovery Nurses Association (BARNA) from 1997 to 2009, chairing the Association from 1999 to 2001 and President from 2005 to 2009. Mark is the founding editor of the British Journal of Anaesthetic and Recovery Nursing in 1999.

He has also worked as an adviser to the Department of Health, NCEPOD (National Confidential Enquiry into Patient Outcome and Death), MHRA (The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency) and NICE (The National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence) on a range of areas including perioperative hypothermia, emergency management and nurse prescribing. He has published widely on advanced practice nursing and perioperative care. His research focuses on clinical decision-making, expertise and sociological issues in healthcare.
