Funding statement

This special section originates in presentations given at a conference as part of a project that has received funding from the European Research Council (ERC) under the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme (Grant agreement No. 758347, ‘The Aftermath of the East Asian War of 1592–98’). The Conference ‘Mastery of Materialities: Resources and Technology in Post-Imjin War East Asia (1598–1650)’, was organised by the co-editors at the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB) in September 2023. The conference also received funding from the Chiang Ching-kuo Foundation for International Scholarly Exchange Conference and Seminar Grants (grant agreement CS001-U-22) and the Japan Foundation Grant Program for Japanese Studies Projects (Ref. No. 10143637). The co-editors both worked as postdocs on the ‘Aftermath’ project under PI Rebekah Clements while planning and delivering the 2023 conference and during the initial editorial work on the contributions for this special section.
