The Journal of the American Philosophical Association will be running a number of special series, each unified by a given theme designed to introduce readers to a field of philosophy with which they may not be familiar. The editorial conceit is to commission specialists to take a somewhat free hand in writing in an area they are passionate about, but in a way that is accessible to a new audience. In this issue, we kick off our Special Series in Non-Western Philosophies with a paper by Graham Priest unearthing some arresting similarities between Buddhist and Marxist thought. Future issues will continue the series on an occasional basis, featuring papers written by other specialists in the fields of Arabic, Chinese, Indian, Hispanic and African philosophical traditions. We hope you enjoy reading them.
