Summary

Functional somatic symptoms associated with persistent frequent attendanceis emotionally demanding, costly and intractable to treat. Such patients arehard to engage in practice and research by mental health professionals,whose main role may be indirect training, supporting and advising primarycare professionals rather than direct patient care.
