GHB: what psychiatrists need to know

Gamma-hydroxybutyrate (GHB) is an endogenous brain compound, which at pharmacological doses acts as a central nervous system depressant. Medical literature reports rising cases of GHB intoxication, dependence and severe withdrawal, which are potentially fatal. This module outlines the history, epidemiology and pharmacology of GHB, and provides a summary of the medico-legal issues associated with the drug. CPD credits: 1.5

Practical child protection

Since the death of Victoria Climbié in 2000, new child protection guidance has been provided emphasising effective communication by medical staff with other agencies. This module aims to equip you with the skills and knowledge required to identify, present solutions for and work effectively with children at risk. CPD credits: 1.5

Quickbite Overvalued ideas: a lost concept?

The concept of the overvalued idea has been debated for more than a century, and in recent years there has been renewed interest in it, particularly in the context of discussions about the classification of certain disorders as delusional or non-delusional. This module outlines the various theories proposed and applies them to body dysmorphic disorder and olfactory reference syndrome. CPD credits: 0.5

Teaching clinical skills

Over the past two decades there have been major changes in medical education. However, much of the training that students receive is delivered by practising clinicians who have no formal educational role, and the quality assurance mechanisms in place are sparse. This module is designed to help clinical teachers develop more interactive and engaging teaching styles. CPD credits: 1
