In the original publication of this Review Essay, the titles of the books concerned were incorrectly given as Classical and Romantic Performance Practice and Classical and Romantic Performance Practice 1750–1900. Instead, the titles should be Classical and Romantic Performing Practice and Classical and Romantic Performing Practice 1750–1900.

The title of the paper has been updated to reflect this, and wherever Performance Practice is written throughout the paper, this should be Performing Practice.
